Welcome to the club Eshaika! Officially. This kid's new to the program, but has already undergone his trail by fire! At this point, he has made it through 2 separate 40 min EMOMs and a couple of team workouts. I think he's earned the right to call himself a CrossFit athlete! He's clearly got the Grit, and as long as he keeps showing up we'll make him into Granite!

Good thing we built that extension!!! Otherwise our CrossFit Open journey would have ended after the first workout!!!
25ft and minimal space to turn around, but we got this! 23.2 here we come!

How'd you spend your Valentine's Day? Well, Nat and I mixed and poured concrete and built an extension to the Sanctum Sanctorum (my CrossFit box) in the event that lunges, handstand walks, or whatever else comes up in the 2023 CrossFit Open.
The equipment list said we needed 25ft of floor space and since we don't have it, we had to make it!

Of the young men in the program so far, I have known Derrick the longest. In essence I have had the honor and the privilege of watching him grow from a skinny wide eyed kid to a young man with focus and vision. The transformation has been fun to watch. We have trained together on a couple of occasions in very different contexts and every time, Derrick has impressed me. But when he asked me to help him train for the first ever Beast Mode Liberia, that’s when I truly saw his athletic potential.
For Beast Mode he shifted focus from aesthetics to performance and in so doing Derrick showed HEART, dedication, and discipline. When it came to game time, he put the hammer down and came damn close to winning the whole thing. In racing, things happen, and a slight snag on the army crawl might have made the difference between a first and second place finish. I was SOOOO PROUD of the way he performed at Beast Mode and when Grit to Granite was born I knew he was a young man I would be honored to work with.
