YES Alumni Spotlight | Zeta Kromah

When Zeta Kromah returned to Liberia this December, she didn’t come home empty-handed. She came back with a plan.

Zeta, a YES alumna and Division I soccer player at the College of William & Mary, used her break to run the second Tribe Stars in Liberia soccer camp in West Point—the community where she was born and raised. For her, this was personal.

The camp brought together 40 girls and boys, many of whom had never owned proper soccer gear. Each child received equipment and school supplies—simple items, but ones that make a real difference. For Zeta, the goal was clear: give young people something practical, and show them that someone sees their effort and believes in their future.

West Point is often spoken about for what it lacks. Zeta’s story challenges that narrative. She grew up there, graduated as valedictorian of LEAD Monrovia Football Academy, and went on to represent Liberia at the U-17, U-20, and Senior Women’s National Teams, serving as captain at the U-17 level. Today, she studies Business Marketing and International Relations while competing in NCAA Division I soccer.

Through Tribe Stars in Liberia, Zeta is using the same sport that opened doors for her to create space for others—especially girls who are told, directly or indirectly, to limit their dreams.
Her work didn’t stop with the soccer camp. During the Christmas season, she also supported elderly members of the community through a small food drive, extending care beyond the field and across generations.
Zeta often says she is where she is today because people invested in her when they didn’t have to. This project is her way of doing the same.

This is what the YES Program hopes its alumni will do: take what they’ve gained, return home, and use it to serve.

And for Zeta Kromah, this work is only beginning.

Over four days, the YES Alumni Association Liberia organized a boot camp themed “AI as a Tool for Development,” designed to equip young professionals and students with practical, future-ready digital skills. Participants engaged in hands-on learning, including image and video generation, Internet of Things (IoT), digital waste management, and building AI-powered applications, showing how technology can be applied to real development challenges in Liberia. A healthy team-based competition strengthened creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking while encouraging innovative problem-solving. The camp empowered participants to rethink Liberia’s developmental potential and left them better prepared to use artificial intelligence as a strategic tool for community and national growth.

A throwback of meaningful experiences at the U.S. Embassy Monrovia, Liberia

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Mugabe T. Worjloh ’19, our Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Liberia President🎉✨

He is a president that is filled with countless of volunteering experiences. From Organizing community benefits programs to collaborating with his colleagues to work in alignment with the SDGs goals. He is a servant leader by nature, a diplomat, and creative mind that any team would work with. As an undergraduate student at the African Methodist EPISCOPAL University (AMEU) studying Business Management, his intellectual skills and style of leadership have always stood tall in the students community.

He has served this association in positions such as program committee chair, secretary General, and now president-elect. Outside our noble Institution, he volunteers with the children Care Foundation-Liberia, Gibi Hustler Basketball lad, and Ex-president of the 24th Freshmen class of the African Methodist EPISCOPAL University/ Financial Secretary of the students Governing council. E.T.C.

“We can now only envision that our institution is save in the hand of a young man that is fill with passion, ambition, meek spirit to served, and well rounded experience”, a message from the president-elect.

Meet Koryeyon W. Talley ’22, our Vice President!

Kory is a YES alumnus from the 2021-22 cohort, recruited from Grand Gedeh County. During his incredible exchange year in Lewisville, Arkansas, he had the amazing opportunity to attend Spring High School. His experience wasn’t just about academics; he also had the privilege of volunteering with local organizations such as the Hope Evening Lions Club, which truly enriched his journey to becoming the best version of a man who wants to heal the world🌍❤️.

Since returning, he has continued his commitment to service by documenting the amazing activities of YES Alumni Liberia as a photographer. Capturing our community in action has been a joy for him because it is something he loves doing.

Meet Edwin Konneh ’20, our treasurer!🎉🌟

Edwin Konneh ’20, is a deaf (hearing and speech-impaired)YES Alumnus who was recruited from Bomi County and placed in Illinois. He is regarded as one of the outstanding alumni who has shown so much passion being actively involved in the YES Alumni community. Whether it is attending meetings, planning important events and joining teams to help implement Youth Exchange and Study (YES) alumni projects he will be in attendance.

Besides that, Edwin is an educator and leader in the disabled community. On August 23, Edwin was certified as Religious Officer of the Student Council Government of the Liberia standard Teacher Training College Branch #1. We are super proud of him and all that he has achieved since his return from the YES program. Congratulations, Edwin.

Meet Onesimus Leo Lloyd '19, our Chairperson on Diaspora Affairs!🎉

Onesimus is a 2018/2019 Youth Exchange and Study (YES) alumnus who is currently diving into his studies in Biology and Chemistry. 📚🔬He is also a graduate of the Positive Practical Thinkers With A Growth Mindset of Liberia, a mentorship program that trains young people how to unlock their true potential.
He has had the privilege of working with two incredible KL-YES Alumni leaderships as the acting Financial Secretary and the Chairman of the Planning Committee. Together, they brought impactful initiatives to life! 💪✨

His passion lies in providing underprivileged children with the opportunities they deserve to become part of our educational community. Education is a powerful tool, and he believes every child should have access to it.

When he is not studying or working on community projects, you can find him lost in the thrilling world of movies, especially those involving criminal investigations and true-life documentaries.

He is excited to connect with all of you and work together for a better and yield fulfilling future of the YES Alumni community and Liberia at large.
