Former Commerce Minister Amin Modad Wonders why Government Supporters Celebrating..
“$1 billion in domestic revenue should be seen as a Liberian achievement, not a partisan one. “

“Why are people discounting and politicizing improved national revenue generation? If this is sustainable and managed properly, shouldn’t this be to everyone’s benefit? Or is it because it was achieved under the Unity Party administration?

$1 billion in domestic revenue should be seen as a Liberian achievement, not a partisan one. With geopolitical shifts, reduction in foreign aid, and other exogenous factors, more domestic revenue means greater capacity to invest in social services, infrastructure, food production, tourism, better salaries for civil servants, Liberia’s private sector, and to service our debts. It can also mean less dependence on external support and more ability to finance our own development.

This achievement should be welcomed; but the real test is sustainability, transparency, accountability, and ensuring that ordinary Liberians actually feel the benefits.

CONGRATULATIONS LIBERIA! GOOD WORK LRA!”

Lofa Community Residents Decry Bad Road, Call for Government Intervention

By Massah Sesay

MONTSERRADO, Liberia — Residents of Lofa Community in Electoral District #2, Montserrado County, are calling for urgent government intervention as the community’s main access road becomes heavily muddy amid heavy rainfall.

Residents say the situation has made movement increasingly difficult, particularly for students and motorists, with some describing the condition as unbearable.

They say they have endured the problem for several years, with conditions worsening during the rainy season.

One resident, Josiah ZG Menlor, said students had to remove their shoes on Monday morning while making their way to school because of the muddy road.

“This morning, I felt sorry for the students. While on their way to school, they had to removed their shoes because of the road condition,” he said.

The residents are urging the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Public Works, to rehabilitate the road and restore safe and convenient access to the community.

Former Solicitor General Cllr. Cephus Demands Public Apology From Boakai Over Jewel Howard-Taylor’s Arrest

Former Solicitor General of Liberia, Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus, is calling on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to publicly apologize to former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor over the manner in which she was arrested.

In an open letter, Cllr. Cephus says he fully supports President Boakai’s fight against drugs and believes anyone found involved in a drug network should face the full weight of the law.

However, he argues that the process matters as much as the outcome, particularly when dealing with former senior government officials.

Cllr. Cephus questions whether there was a need to arrest a former First Lady, Senator, and Vice President in a manner he describes as degrading, while the allegations against her remain before the courts.

He also questions why the government, after arresting Madam Howard-Taylor and describing the evidence against her as overwhelming, subsequently filed a Bill of Information to admit her to bail.

Cllr. Cephus further raises concerns over what he calls the government’s public relations campaign following the arrest, particularly statements urging Madam Howard-Taylor to confess.

He argues that such public statements risk humiliating a person who has not been convicted by a court.

The former Solicitor General says his call for an apology is not about the allegations against Madam Howard-Taylor, which he says should be determined by the court.

Instead, he is asking President Boakai to apologize for what he describes as the manner of treatment meted out to the former Vice President during her arrest.

Cllr. Cephus concludes by telling President Boakai that, based on the President’s own past advice about speaking truth to power, **“you owe Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor a public apology.”
