Pensacola Valkyries Softball

Pensacola Valkyries are moving up to High School Division for the 2022 Fall Season. The Valkyries are looking for players interested in preparing for High School play in the spring and girls wishing to pursue playing softball at the college level. The team will be coached by High School coaches with over 28 years of experience. Team fees are only for uniforms and tournament entry fees. The team will practice in Pensacola and will have access to a field and covered hitting facilities. If interested in joining, please contact coach Chris Baker for Open practice times and date. Time to give a little shout out to our girls. We have played tournaments in the last two weekends. The Valkyries finished with a silver bracket championship in Millbrook on May 7th. They followed that up the next weekend by making the Gold bracket in a very strong tournament in Pace on May 14th. That may not sound impressive, but there is more to the story. The team was very short handed due to injury and other issues. We had to play without a lot of key players. But despite this, the girls ended up in a Gold bracket with some strong teams. I am super proud that they stepped up and competed despite the odds being stacked against them. As I have said before, ” I love this group of girls!!” Looking forward to rest of season when we are back at full strength. Congratulations ladies. Fly high! !

Congratulations to our Valkyries!! Winners of yesterday’s USFA Spring Break Bash tournament in Panama City, Florida! Great job by the team of overcoming a slow start in tough conditions to bring home the title just after 3:30AM last night! And no this was not a midnight madness tournament! Due to rain delays and schedule issues, the girls were at the park from 10:30AM Saturday till the early hours of Sunday morning. The team won 3 in a row to win it, coming from behind late in 2 of the 3 bracket games. Great job ladies and way to go! !!!

The girls had another great weekend at Monster Mash in Montgomery!! The Valkyries won the best pumpkin contest. And the best part, we brought home our first championship. Silver bracket winners. The defense was great, allowing no runs in the bracket games. The whole team contributed and played with a lot of energy and heart. Love watching this team improve each week!

Valkyries had another great weekend. Traveled to a new location and played in a great tournament in Laurel, Mississippi. We finished third. But I’m as pleased with these girls as any team I’ve ever coached. We went with 10. Sadly lost a player in first inning of first game for rest of day with an injury. Lost first bracket game to tournament champions. Fought all the way back for a rematch with this team. Just after taking a 2-1 lead, we lose a player to another bad injury. Tired, beat down, and down to 8 players, we could have laid down. Instead, we adjusted, rallied, moved positions and fought for 2 and half more innings. Came up short 7-6. But, they played, never complained, never quit, and my favorite part…..They were extremely upset they didn’t win that last one!! Great news girls…you may have lost a game, but you won a lot of respect for the heart and effort you showed. That will take you further in life than anything. Really love this bunch. They keep getting better and they really love playing together. Keep it up girls!! !!

We still have a few open positions left on this team and we welcome anyone interested in our program to join us at open practices on any of the following dates:

Wednesday July 28: 6-8 PM
Sunday August 1: 2-4 PM
Saturday August 7: 4-6 PM

All practices will take place at Escambia High School in Pensacola. This team will have access to both indoor/outdoor facilities and weight room during the season at no extra charge.
