Big and small life changes are inevitable, but that doesn’t make them any easier for children (or even adults) to manage. Structure and stability feel safe for children, so new experiences like divorce, moving, attending a new school, or welcoming a baby sibling can be scary.
As we face changes, we develop the skills of resilience. By navigating and growing from these experiences, we strengthen and train our “resilience muscle.” Children who are new to major life changes need extra support in addressing their feelings, understanding and adjusting to change, and learning new strategies and skills along the way.
Remember that children feel our emotions, so start by acknowledging and regulating your own feelings about the change.
These effective strategies will help your child feel safe, adjust, and build resilience.

1. Give them time to prepare
2. Listen to their concerns
3. Keep routines the same
3. Give them choices and ask for help
5. Talk about other changes and help them pull from that experience

Adults and caregivers are the primary people who contribute to a child's ability to become self-disciplined. They must help children learn the positive benefits of prosocial behaviors—the opposite of antisocial behavior, and includes behaviors such as sharing, cooperating, sympathizing, and comforting—by rewarding them when they act appropriately, and by using positive guidance strategies to deal with inappropriate or unwanted behaviors and actions.

Parents should take an active role in encouraging children to engage in desirable actions and behaviors such as sharing with others, comforting their peers, and being honest and respectful. Desirable actions and behaviors can be rewarded with praise and appreciation. Conversely, undesirable actions such as
aggression, tattling, or selfishness should be discussed with children, putting an emphasis on the negative effects it has on them and others around
them.

Happy Tuesday !
Self-esteem — a person's sense of worth — is important for success. When children feel confident and secure, they're more likely to succeed in school and achieve personal goals. As they get older, they learn to confront problems and resist peer pressure. More important, having a positive self-image helps a child feel happy and capable of maintaining personal relationships.

Building children's self-esteem is an ongoing part of parenting. Parents' actions influence the way children feel about themselves. Children need their parents' unconditional love and support. The way parents interact with their children influences the type of people they become. Nurturing parents who share their love help increase their children's sense of self-worth. Kids learn to feel good about themselves and to care about others. When parents build their Children’s self-esteem, a foundation for a strong, loving relationship is laid.

Who remembers playing hand games as a kid? Of course you do! If given the opportunity you would show your children what you’re made of!

So this Friday, I challenge you all to sit with your children and teach them a hand game you used to play as a kid. Be patient with them as they learn, be gentle with them as they will not get it right the first, second or maybe even third time trying. But introducing your children to things of your past that made you happy, will create a bonding moment. These bonding moments create core memories for you both.

Give it a try today and let us know how it made you and your children feel once they’ve mastered it. Swipe for a few examples of games that brought me joy as a kiddo!

Happy Tuesday!
Todays tip is all about flexibility as parents. When you think of flexibility you often think time. How available are you for your children or how can you adjust your work schedule to be conducive to what your children needs. But flexible parenting isn’t about time, it’s about your energy and mindset. Most of us grew up in an old school “do as you’re told”, “don’t question me” home environment, but we’ve quickly learned as adult as that may not be the best approach for some children. Raising or caring for children is not black or white. There are adjustments to be made as children develop and grow. So challenging yourself to step outside of your norm will be difficult at first, but your children deserve your ability to adapt to their specific needs. They’ll thank you for it in the long run.
