One of my clients came to me when he was struggling to achieve his goals. When we dived more into his patterns of behaviour, we uncovered, what was holding him back. The blocks that would not allow him to finish projects that he has started that would lead him having a successful business.
During one particular session we dove deep into his patterns and uncovered his childhood wounds that created the story he was living. He traced it back to his father. And here on the surface came the paradox โ from one side he admired his father about being responsible provider for the whole family. My client wanted to be like his father โ able to do the same for his family. But he also felt angry with his father (his inner child had those memories, where his father was constantly unavailable and busy working) โ and from this perspective he did not want to be like his father at all. This was the inner conflict, which was hidden in his subconscious mind.
What happened in this session was that โ the moment it became clear, this aha moment, it clicked itself in my clients mind, as soon as he saw his โproblemโ from this new perspective and acknowledged its roots, he immediately was able to see what are the new ways, what are the new perspectives and felt ready to implement them as soon as possible.
The result my client achieved in his own exact words: โWe identified that my values were in the wrong priority order, by resetting them provided me with a sense of freedom to pursue my goals for the best of reasonsโ
So I want to highlight few moments we can learn from this example:
1. There is always a reason why we are stuck, procrastinating or in doubt. Very often through my work I find these reasons to be something unconscious, some kind of emotional experience in childhood, which we either try to repeat or to avoid. So it is important to reveal these hidden motivations and use them to our advantage not create traps for ourselves.
2. The easy way of how to keep ourselves moving is to know โ What is it that I truly want? And from all of that โ what is the priority? In my clientโs example โ yes, money and good financial situation in family is very important, but anyway more important is actual time with them. When we are clear with ourselves about number one priority (which can be anything to anybody) it is much easier to allow ourselves working on other important priorities.
3. One very interesting thing I have observed and I believe other coaches, therapists have too.. When client comes to a session with his problem, more often than not in a process there will arise some completely new perspective about the situation being discussed. Like I could plan that today I am going to run a marathon, but when I start running, I would discover that cowboy boots are not fit for this goal, so todays task becomes going back home to find more suitable shoes
So I invite everybody to remind themselves, everything is okay with us. That we are already doing well. And it is always possible to move forward, solving โproblemsโ. We can find great meaning in our past, and from restricting obstacle it can suddenly transform in motivating force, which drives us forward with more ease
*If you also want to dive deeper into your hidden motivations, do not hesitate to contact me, because life is too short to spend time waiting while problems magically disappear themselves. We are each the Author of our own life and experience of reality โ the most effective way to switch levels that I have found is to do that inner work โ better sooner than later;)
