The Mauritius Athletics Association exists since 1952, date of registration with the International Association of Athletics Federations as a commission of the Mauritius Sports Association and independently, with the creation of the Sports Act in 1984. The MAA operates independently of every other sports federation under the aegis of the Mauritius Olympic Committee, ensures the implementation of any rules made or sanction imposed by the appropriate international governing body or the Olympic Committee. The MAA as a recognised structure in Africa as well as on international grounds has distinguish himself in organising various big events such as the Indian ocean games, African championships, international meet and nevertheless international marathons.
