INTRODUCTION
History of Soft ball cricket in Maldives. The First Ramadan softball Tournament was held in 1993 organized by Milan Cricket Club.
1st Softball final match was played between Majeediyya School team beat Meysthiri team in a tense last over thriller to win the championship.
In 1995 Cricket Control Board of Maldives took over the hosting of the softball tournament soon the tennis ball was replaced by Tape ball.
Ramadan Cricket Carnival is the longest running and most popular sports event held during the Month of Ramadan in Maldives. Since then Government Office and Government shared companies took lots of interest on the competition.
2021 Ramadan Cricket Carnival
COVID-19 continues to represent the single biggest challenge to current community sport globally. Compliance with social distancing, strict rules, the pandemic has impacted youth as well as sport a lot. After a year lost without a single cricket competition, thanks Maldives cricket board for allowing Male Sports Club to run competition this year.
As usual the Ramadan Cricket Carnival 2021 was conducted on three categories.
1. Open Tape Ball Cricket Tournament
2. Office Tape Ball Cricket Tournament
3. Company Cricket Tournament
Open tape ball
Target for only locals and the competition is the first to play in the Ramadan. A total of 16 slots are available, the first 16 to register will be eligible to play. Tournament is played in 4 groups, after a league round, the best 4 teams will play semi and then final.
Office tape ball
Office table ball cricket is conducted for civil service staffs working in government office, the first 8 teams to register will be eligible and played in two groups the best two teams play final.
Company tape ball tournament
This is an open tournament any company registered at Trade Ministry can play in this competition. There is a 12-team slot for this competition. As usual the first to register will be eligible. The competition is played in three groups the best team from each group qualifies for semi; the fourth team will be the second-best team from all the groups.
15 matches of Company are yet to play. As soon as Maldives Cricket confirms a date, Male sports Club will contact the teams and continue the competition.
