There are some animals that seem to have a special ability to win everyone’s hearts… and sea turtles are definitely one of them. 🐢💙

During this dive in Cozumel, we came across one of these incredible ocean friends calmly moving across the seafloor while we took a few seconds to admire her and capture the encounter on video.

Their relaxed and peaceful nature is part of what makes sea turtles so beloved by divers and ocean lovers everywhere. Watching one glide through the water can make the entire underwater world feel slower for a moment.

For us at PonteBuzo, encounters like this are almost like meeting a diving companion who simply continues along her way while we enjoy the privilege of observing her.

We believe the best way to experience marine life is with respect: observe, admire, keep a safe distance and allow every animal to continue its natural behavior.

Sometimes the most special underwater encounters happen when everything seems completely still. 🐟💙

During this dive in Cozumel, we came across a black grouper (Mycteroperca bonaci) resting on the sandy bottom beneath a coral formation. We approached carefully to observe its distinctive dark markings before it moved slightly and continued on its way.

Black groupers are reef-associated fish found throughout the Caribbean and are generally solitary as adults. Encounters like this are a reminder that responsible diving is about observing marine life without disturbing it.

Some encounters underwater don't need to be chased. 🐢💙

During this dive in Cozumel, a beautiful hawksbill turtle swam right past us before continuing on its way. We simply observed, admired and gave it the space it needed.

This is what responsible diving is about: being a respectful visitor in the marine world and enjoying wildlife without disturbing its natural behavior.

At first, it looks like nothing more than a sandy patch of seafloor… until we move a little closer. 🐚🌊

First, one queen conch appears. Then another. And then two more… until we realize that six of these beautiful animals are gathered in the same area.

Known locally in Cozumel as caracol rosado, the queen conch is scientifically known as Aliger gigas. It is one of the most iconic gastropods of the Caribbean, and it can be found in habitats such as sandy bottoms, seagrass beds and areas of rubble.

Queen conch can form aggregations, and finding several individuals together is especially interesting because population density plays an important role in reproduction. Since they need to encounter one another to mate, having enough individuals in an area can make a real difference.

We simply moved closer to observe them, then backed away and allowed them to continue naturally.

Six queen conch in one spot. 🐚 How many did you spot?

That’s what diving in Cozumel with PonteBuzo is all about: discovering the unexpected beneath the surface while respecting the marine life that calls this place home.
