An energy gel is fuel, but it is not your complete hydration plan.
Sports gels are concentrated carbohydrate sources. They can help you meet your fuel target, while your bottle separately helps replace fluid according to your sweat rate, the heat and what your stomach tolerates.
Before a longer ride, plan both sides:
β‘ Fuel: count carbohydrate from gels, drink mix and food.
π§ Fluid: match water and electrolyte drinks to the conditions.
π§ͺ Practice: test the combination during training, not for the first time on event day.
Most conventional sports gels should be consumed with adequate fluid. If your bottle also contains carbohydrate, remember to include it in your total fuel intake rather than counting only the gels.
Each WinSports Double Source Energy Gel provides 45 g carbohydrate. Five flavours are available from MyLGCycling: Apple, Lemon Lime, Orange, and White Grape.
