Appreciate it. Appreciate the work. Appreciate the soreness that reminds you of your effort. Appreciate the days you wanted to quit but didn't. Appreciate the progress no one clapped for. Appreciate the discipline it takes to show up again and again. Appreciate the quiet moments when it's just you and the weight. Appreciate how far you've come, even if it's not where you want to be yet. Appreciate the little things. They weren't so little after all.

I’ve competed many races throughout my fitness career since 2004 (yes, read that, 21 years ago). But this year at 51 (not 52 yet, I'm a Q4 born😅), I have the chance to participated in Hyrox. No expectations at all, just wanted to test the water before I dive in to full Singles Open Hyrox. As how much I love strength moves, Hyrox is all about compromised running, and to control the enemy within you. Was it hard? It's hard to focus to myself as I'm always in my coaching mode, and this Hyrox Debut is the start for all.
Some tips and guidance if you are like me, always teaching others to fish, but never fish for yourselves.
- Please count your laps!
- Pace yourself. There’s a possibility next wave athletes will pass you and it is fine.🤗
- Take a sip🧃after the run or after your workout station in the hydration point but you have to RUN in the Roxzone. This zone is crucial for faster total times.⏱️
- Frequent station switching is a must when doing Doubles to maintain high intensity and to not fatigue the muscles.
- Divide & conquer. If one partner is faster, have them start and finish stations to allow the slower partner to recover😰
- It is important to remember that non-verbal cues also play a role, read your partner’s fatigue to know when to take over, rather than needing to speak.

🤲Bismillah🤲. Hyrox Single debut, I have come to realize that it’s a test of strength and endurance. But for most of it is a test of character. Whatever you have in between your two ears, make sure it’s not your own worst enemy. Make it your biggest cheerleader. Here’s my advice, if you run regularly and weigh over 90kg you’re not broken, you are just playing different game. I trained like I weigh 65kg.The standard advice didn’t work for me.🤔🤭😅
✏️Change your shoes more often. Protect your joints and don’t wait until they’re wrecked.
✏️Be mindful of surface impact. Mix it up, add low impact aerobic. Less pounding = fewer injuries. Protects your joints and still build your engine.
✏️Forget pace prediction. Those formulas weren’t made for over 90kg bodies. Your pacing needs to reflect your strength + load.
✏️3 quality runs > 6 junk ones. More isn’t always better especially when heavier. Adjust your frequency & volume.
✏️Prioritize strength training. Stronger legs, stronger glutes, stronger calves = more power, more control, less pain. Don’t skip this if you want to stay in the game long term. 🦿🦿🦿

📊Heavier runners aren’t at a disadvantage. They just need the right structure. There’s so much possibility from here, can’t wait to see what comes next!

It can be a hard lesson to learn that everything in life is a skill. You may never be the best at something, but with pray, trust God’s plan, support from my wife and family, good circles, self awareness and work hard, you can always be better.

Grateful for what we are doing, but even more who we are doing it with. Chasing after some really big dreams just doesn’t work by yourself and it sure ain’t as fun.💯
We made it Sayang. For the last 12 weeks we invested our time, effort and money to give the best experiences to our FH family. We always discussed together, “we want them to finish strong”, “still smiling at the finishing line”, “not lying down on the floor”, “not leaning back at the barricade and vomit.”🤣😂😅
