ISTIC was honoured to welcome the Office of the State Secretary of the Penang State Government on 10 December. 🇲🇾

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights on regional and international cooperation in , , and (STI).

Discussions focused on ISTIC’s approaches, strategies, and initiatives in open science and digital , highlighting how Malaysian governance, in collaboration with international partners, can drive and in South countries. The dialogue also explored potential avenues for collaboration between ISTIC and the Penang State Government to advance initiatives at the regional level. 🤝 🌐

ISTIC remains committed to fostering national cooperation within Malaysia and promoting knowledge exchange to support sustainable digital transformation and innovation. 💡

On 24 November, ISTIC under the auspices of UNESCO in collaboration with National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF), hosted a Consultative Meeting and Concept Co-Creation Workshop in Pretoria, South Africa. 🇿🇦 🌐

The meeting brought together partners from across Africa and Asia to further shape the emerging AFRASIA framework, an initiative focused on strengthening , , and Innovation (STI) between the two regions.

Representatives from the of Higher Education, Science and Technology Indonesia (MoHEST), the Malaysia Science Endowment (MSE), and South Africa’s Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) participated in the discussions, with CSIR, India India joining as an observer. This workshop builds on outcomes from earlier engagements and Joint Committee Meetings held in Malaysia and Indonesia earlier this year. 🤝

Led by ISTIC, in partnership with the NRF South Africa and the Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Centre (FEAHLC), the initiative aims to advance a long-term, coordinated approach to South–South collaboration in STI.

AFRASIA is envisioned as a six-year, multi-country partnership that will:
✨ Connect Africa and Asia through a shared collaborative platform
✨ Advance mission-oriented research and co-funded innovation
✨ Strengthen knowledge exchange and support evidence-informed policy impact

Yesterday, the International Science Technology and Innovation Center under the auspices of UNESCO was invited to take part in the Technology Cooperation and Development Summit 2025, held from 25–27 November at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur! 🇲🇾

Co-organised by UNESCO, the Diplomatic Council, Sino-International Entrepreneurs Federation (SIEF), MRANTI, NCT GROUP and Intrinsic SEA, this summit gathers leading voices driving progress and regional across .

ISTIC’s participation in the Summit Opening Ceremony aligns with its mission to strengthen STI capacities across Global South countries, and reflects its commitment to deepening collaboration with and partners to advance shared development goals. 🌏

Today, ISTIC was invited to take part in the National Planetary Health Forum, organised by the Akademi Sains Malaysia (ASM) at MATRADE Hall, Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾.

The Forum aimed to introduce the National Planetary Health Action Plan (NPHAP), Malaysia’s strategic blueprint designed to place planetary health at the core of national development. The plan encompasses six key result areas, 53 strategies, and 222 action plans, guided by humanity-centric, STI-enabled, nature-based, and values-driven principles. 🌏

A panel session on “Advancing Planetary Health: Bridging Policy and Practice”featured valuable contributions from UNIMAS, UNICEF Malaysia, the Environmental and Natural Resources Division, and others 💬.
