The Duanwu Festival, also often known as the Dragon Boat Festival, is a traditional holiday originating in China, occurring near the summer solstice.
It is also known as Zhongxiao Festival commemorating fealty and filial piety.
There are several stories of this festival. One of the stories best known in modern China holds that the festival commemorates the death of the poet and minister Qu Yuan of the ancient state of Chu during the Warring States period of the Zhou Dynasty.

華人的端午節，是華人的四大传统節日之一，与东亚其他地区的端午節节庆同样源于中国古代的端午节传统。
端午節每年農曆五月初五慶祝，以八德為首的忠、孝為正統寓意，端午節又有“忠孝節”之稱。
最初是夏季驅離瘟神和祭龍的節日，後來加入紀念多位中國歷史人物的內容，最廣為人知的是紀念戰國時代楚國詩人屈原，他在五月初五这天投汨罗江自尽殉国。
端午节在各地有各种传统别称，包括“端陽節”、“重五”、“龙舟节”等等。

卫塞节快乐 Happy Wesak Day.

卫塞节，其实是把佛陀诞生、成道、湼槃，於同一日纪念。原来，据记载，佛陀5月的一个月圆之日出生；35年后又在5月的某月圆之日，於菩提树下悟道；后来他湼槃那天，巧的也是5月的月圆之日。三者虽非同一天，却有月圆之最大共同特点。於是，后世的佛教徒，便订下在每年5月的第一个月圆日，庆祝卫塞节。Vesak在印度古代梵文的意思，正就是「月圆」解也。
佛陀出家时，只有29岁。虽然他降生于帝王之家，尊贵为皇太子，因为看不惯当时印度迷信神教的风俗，剥削人民，于是，为拯救当时广大的人民，为贯彻救国救民的目标，佛陀舍去皇太子尊贵的身份和荣誉地位，并抛下妻子，进入雪山修行。6年后，终于彻底觉悟宇宙人生的实相真理，遂四处说法，创立“佛教”。

Buddhists celebrate Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death on Wesak Day. It is sometimes referred to as Buddha’s Birthday, Buddha Day or Buddha Purnima. Wesak Day is celebrated on the day that is closest to May’s full moon.

This day is one of the most important festivals in the Buddhist calendar as it commemorates three significant events in Gautama Buddha’s life – namely his birthday, his enlightenment and his passing away.
