These five lines got me through the days I didn’t recognise myself — the days that felt more like surviving than living.
Here’s why I kept saying them even when I didn’t believe them yet:
“I can do it” — Self-efficacy research by psychologist Albert Bandura shows that believing in your ability to act directly influences whether you take action. The belief comes before the evidence, not after.
“I can get through” — Studies on psychological resilience show that self-talk during stress activates the prefrontal cortex, helping regulate the emotional brain. Telling yourself you’ll survive a hard moment literally changes how your nervous system processes it.
“I am beautiful” — Body image research consistently links self-affirming statements to reduced cortisol and improved mood — especially in women. Beauty isn’t what you see in the mirror on hard days. It’s what you choose to claim.
“I am capable” — Research on growth mindset (Carol Dweck, Stanford) shows that affirming competence — even before you feel it — shifts neural pathways over time. You’re not lying to yourself. You’re rewiring.
“I am worthy” — Self-worth affirmations have been shown to buffer stress responses and protect against anxiety spirals. Worthiness isn’t earned through productivity. It’s a baseline you return to.
You don’t need to believe all five on day one.
You just need to say them on the days you almost don’t.

You made it through last week. You’ll make it through this one too. But let’s talk about what that’s actually costing you — the shoulder tension you carry everywhere, the 3pm fog, the irritability that arrives before you even realise you’re overwhelmed, the Sunday dread that starts Saturday night. And one of the simplest ways to start: before your next meeting, take two slow exhales, longer than your inhale. That’s it. You’re not fixing everything — you’re just signalling to your body that it’s safe to come down. Small resets, done consistently, change the baseline.

Here’s what you can do to protect your energy…
• Set a screen time limit. Even 30 minutes less a day gives your nervous system room to breathe.
• Don’t scroll first thing in the morning. Those first 20 minutes set the tone for your whole day’s energy.
• Mute what doesn’t fill you up. Accounts that make you compare, spiral, or feel behind — they’re part of the leak.
• Replace the scroll with a reset. Three deep breaths. A stretch. A glass of water. Anything that brings you back to your body.
• Phone down 30 minutes before bed. Your sleep is where your energy rebuilds — protect it.
Your energy doesn’t just disappear. It goes somewhere. Make sure it’s going to you first.
