EXPED × X3SI | Austere Medicine & Expeditions
27/01/2026
We’ve evolved.
You may have known this page as X3SI — and that foundation isn’t going anywhere.
As our work has grown, so has the collaboration behind it. Many of our expedition medic deployments, training programs, and field projects now sit at the intersection of X3SI and Beyond EXPED.
So from today, this page becomes:
EXPED × X3SI | Austere Medicine & Expeditions
This space will share:
Austere & expedition medicine in real-world environments
Medical support on challenging, bucket-list expeditions
Training, preparation, and lessons learned from the field
Ongoing and upcoming joint projects
Same people.
Same standards.
Bigger scope.
Thanks for being part of the journey — more from the field soon.

Congratulations to our latest batch of AFR graduates in Lijiang, China.
This marks our first bilingual, hybrid AFR in China delivered in Mandarin and English, with over 40 hours of structured online pre-work, and 5 full days of face-to-face practical.
We were also privileged to deliver AEMED’s second instructor induction program in China, welcoming instructors that will push our geographic distribution further into China, and Canada!

Looking to take your skills beyond the roadside and into the world's most extreme environments?
We are proud to partner with Exped LLC to bring their Expedition Medic courses to Malaysia. These courses are designed for medical professionals who want to master austere, remote, and expeditionary medicine.
Taught by experienced expedition medics and paramedics, these courses focus on real-world scenarios, advanced problem-solving, and practical hands-on training—whether you're heading into the jungle, desert, or high-altitude environments.
Our next program will take you deep into the heart of Taman Negara, one of the world’s oldest rainforests. Travel upriver by traditional longboat, navigating winding waterways before setting up a remote jungle basecamp. From there, explore the dense rainforest on foot, tackling realistic medical scenarios in the jungles of Malaysia. Learn to manage injuries, tropical diseases, and prolonged field care with limited resources, all while adapting to the unpredictable challenges of the wild. This immersive experience blends wilderness medicine, survival skills, and adventure, preparing medics for the realities of austere and expeditionary healthcare.
These trips aren't a certificate of attendance, require pre-work before embarkation and equip you to run expeditions and setup remote clinics and operations centers in extreme environments.
If you're ready to push your limits and expand your austere medical skillset, check out the upcoming courses now:
