: Agri-tech innovation hub launched at Swakop
Got Produce Global, an international agri-tech company, has launched its state-of-the-art agri-innovation hub just Swakopmund.
The hub will serve as a biosecurity seed bank and breeding centre, βrevolutionising the future of agriculture in the region and beyondβ, the company said in a statement.
By leveraging advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data security systems, Got Produce Global aims to make the sector more efficient, resilient, and less susceptible to external threats, it said.
The Got Produce Global innovation hub will focus on cutting-edge research and development, advanced crop production methods, comprehensive crop variety testing, and workforce readiness learning programmes specifically tailored to hydroponics.
βWith its strategic location in Namibia, this hub is set to become a beacon of innovation and a catalyst for change in the global agricultural industry,β Got Produce said.
Founder Deborah Walliser this week congratulated the first five graduates from the Greenhouse Operations Training Programme.
"One of the bottlenecks in the industry is having a ready workforce for the new future of agriculture. With our local hub, we can prepare a workforce to build and operate high-tech hydroponic greenhouses," Walliser said.
In addition to its commitment to innovation and technology, Got Produce Global places a strong emphasis on biosecurity.
The new biosecurity seed bank and breeding centre will safeguard valuable genetic resources, protecting the biodiversity and long-term viability of crops against potential threats.
As part of the company's expansion plans, Got Produce Global is currently constructing a larger commercial greenhouse, which is expected to double production capacity of the entire country and further strengthen food security in the region.
