🌍🤝 On 22 August 2025, AUSC Region 2 represented by Chief Dr. Michael Shamsu Mustapha met with Mr. Yang Jianxing the Cultural Counselor representing the Embassy of China in Abuja, Nigeria to explore exciting opportunities.

🔸Present at the meeting also was Nelson Barde - Programme Manager, AUSC Region 2.

Key highlights from the meeting included plans for:
✅ Sports, Education & cultural exchange programs
✅ Organize sport events and exhibitions in Nigeria

This partnership will strengthen China–Africa cooperation through sports, culture, and people-to-people connections.

𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗖 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝟮 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗭𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗝𝗢𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗕𝗨𝗝𝗔, 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗔

🇳🇬 A joint press conference was held on Tuesday, 29th July 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, by the African Union Sports Council Region 2 (AUSC Region 2) and the African Military Sports Organization (OSMA) to announce a proposed partnership between the two bodies.

🔸Major General Maikano Abdullahi, OSMA President and member of the AUSC Technical Committee on Sport Development, gave the opening remarks. He highlighted that the partnership aims to strengthen collaboration between civilian and military institutions across West Africa.

🔹Key objectives include promoting joint sports training, event organization, and community engagement, identifying and developing athletic talent within the military, and using sports to foster morale, teamwork, and national pride.

🔸Speaking on behalf of the Chairperson of the AUSC Region 2 Council of Sports Ministers, Mr. Shehu Dikko, the 15 Member States of Region 2, the AU Commissioner for Sports, and the AUSC Secretariat in Cameroon, AUSC Region 2 Interim Secretary General, Chief (Dr) Michael Shamsu Mustapha, commended Major General Maikano for his leadership and contributions to sports development.

🔹Chief Mustapha emphasized that the partnership is more than a formal agreement it is a declaration to leverage sport for peace, stability, regional integration, and the fight against illegal migration, drug abuse, violence, and crime. He noted that this initiative aligns with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

🔸In closing, Major General Maikano announced the formation of a joint committee to oversee implementation and called on the media to support the initiative across their platforms.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) of Nigeria. With over 30 years of experience in the field of international sports governance, public service, and the private sector, Mr. Dikko brings invaluable insight to the conversation on safeguarding young athletes.

His previous roles include serving on the FIFA Football Stakeholders Committee and the CAF Inter-clubs Committee. Furthermore, he has contributed to shaping Nigeria’s sports legislative instruments and advancing international football development programs.
He underscores the critical importance of safeguarding young athletes through this impactful message:

"Africa's sporting talent is our continent's pride, but we cannot allow criminal networks to exploit our young people under false promises of glory. Nigeria stands ready to lead by example in implementing comprehensive safeguarding measures across our sports ecosystem."
