Common Mistakes to Avoid During Self-Defense
It’s natural to make mistakes. BUT it’s wiser to avoid costly mistakes. As an experienced martial arts practitioner, I have made my own mistakes along the way, one of which could have cost me my life.

One of the mistakes I made during an altercation long time ago was that I didn’t recognize the attack in time and I got involved with an angry mind. It was a no-brainer that as I almost got killed. Many years after, I’ve been able to help a lot of people AVOID costly mistakes in Self-Defense.

Here are 3 out of 7 most common mistakes in Self-Defense you should avoid:

1. Recognize the Attack: It’s safer to be pro-active than re-active in a potentially dangerous situation. If a person wants to harm you being adequately prepared for self-defense could potentially safe your life.

2. Body Position: This gives you assess to focus, range, angle etc of incoming attack and appropriate defense within the dynamics of an assault.

3. Don’t Get Angry: An angry mind is a weak mind and a precursor to avoidable mistakes that may cost you your life. You need a calm mind to execute techniques…

Stress Management
Stress is an everyday occurrence. Most illnesses occur when stress overwhelms the nervous system and the body is flooded with chemicals that prepare you for “fight or flight.”

It may be impossible to avoid daily stress, but you can manage it by learning how to produce the relaxation response that’ll put the brakes on stress and bring your body and mind back into a state of equilibrium. The goal is to be both physically relaxed and mentally alert at the same time.

The idea of exercising may not sound particularly soothing to everyone but rhythmic exercises that gets you into a flow of meditative movement can be very relaxing. But when choosing a relaxation program, it is important to consider your specific needs, preferences, fitness, and the way you tend to react to stress. The right relaxation technique should resonate and fit your lifestyle.

YOGA practice emphasize slow, steady movements, deep breathing and stretching that are best for stress relief. The gentle practice of Hatha yoga is reasonably suitable for beginners. Power yoga on the other hand, is better suited for persons looking for intense stimulation as well as relaxation.

TAI CHI is a self-paced, flowing body movements that emphasize concentration, relaxation, and the conscious circulation of vital energy throughout the body. Though tai chi has its roots in martial arts, it is primarily practiced as a way of calming the mind, conditioning the body, and reducing stress. Tai chi is a safe, low-impact option for people of all ages and fitness levels including older adults and those recovering from injuries.

Yoga and Tai Chi are METAROBIC exercises that’ll greatly improve your overall fitness. As a unit or combined, practiced regularly, they’ll help you reduce anxiety and stress, improve flexibility, strength, balance and stamina.

These are TWO BEST WAYS to strengthen the relaxation response in your daily life.

The Integral Mindset…
Presently, the world is experiencing a wave of physical, mental and emotional overwhelm. With myriad occurrence of extreme religious fundamentalism, environmental degradation, failing education systems, existential alienation and volatile financial markets.

Indeed, the ‘reset’ button triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 revealed the inadequacies of disciplines and rigid worldviews in addressing global challenges. It’s now obvious that the most effective way to resolve personal or global issues is by linking, leveraging, correlating, and aligning varying perspectives to extract objective solutions.

In the last 5 years, I’ve been engrossed in the works of Ken Wilber, an American philosopher. In his Integral Theory, he shared four irreducible perspectives (subjective, inter-subjective, objective, and inter-objective) that must be consulted when attempting to fully understand any issue or aspect of reality. This theory weaves together significant insights from all major human disciplines of knowledge, including the natural and social sciences as well as the arts and humanities.

Particularly, the Integral Life Practice (ILP) allows individuals to systematically explore and develop multiple aspects of themselves such as their physical body, emotional intelligence, cognitive awareness, interpersonal relationships, and spiritual wisdom for personal transformation and integration.

Secondly, I see a correlative value in the PERMA Model (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) as proposed by Martin Seligman. This model represents the five core elements of happiness and well-being and explores personal growth through the lens of multiple intelligence as an instrument for self-development.

The , and ( ) Course holding from 21-23 May, 2021 is a 3 Days transformational program that’ll help participants gain understanding and acquire skills to optimize personal and collective effectiveness.
