Last week, our Principal Partner - E. C. Abednego Esq alongside other lawyers in the firm joined the aggrieved students and graduates of the UBTH Paramedic Department in a protest against the non-accreditation of their HND programme that has left their academic and professional futures uncertain as they can neither go for NYSC or get jobs with their certificates.

The participants demonstrated strong advocacy skills and a clear commitment to excellence in legal practice. The moot session ended with Team UNIBEN emerging victorious, earning extra points through the outstanding performances of their advocates, Chukwunonso Michael and Otu Promise.

Chukwunonso Michael was awarded the Most Outstanding Male Advocate prize, while Akinmoyewa Progress from Team AAU clinched the Most Outstanding Female Advocate award. Team UNIBEN received a cash prize of ₦50,000 while Team AAU received ₦30,000. Each individual award winner also received ₦10,000.

It's a new week and at Midlex LLP, we are proud to share another meaningful victory in our mission to deliver justice and fairness in the Nigerian polity. We successfully led the mediation of a contractual dispute between Zudan Electric Limited and the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

Through dedicated negotiation and skilled mediation, we secured a favourable settlement for the aggrieved Claimant/Contractor, resulting in monetary compensation of about N38,000,000.00 (Thirty-Eight Million Naira).

This resolution not only provides the financial relief rightfully due but also demonstrates the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution in resolving complex contractual matters quickly, amicably and without the delays and costs of full litigation.

At Midlex LLP, we are committed to offering accessible, professional legal support that truly makes a positive impact on businesses, individuals and institutions across Nigeria and beyond.

MIDLEX MENTORSHIP MOMENTS

Today, our Principal Partner, Enyawuile Chukwuka Abednego, delivered an engaging and insightful presentation at Deeper Life High School, Benin Campus, as part of their 2026 Career Day Expo.

Under the inspiring theme "Building Today for Tomorrow's Career", the event brought together professionals from various fields to guide and motivate the students. E. C. Abednego Esq. focused on the legal profession - covering career pathways, essential skills like critical thinking and advocacy, the realities of practice and the rewarding impact of dedicating one's life to justice, equity and service to society.

The enthusiasm of the students was truly infectious. It was a vibrant display of the potential these young minds hold for Nigeria's tomorrow. Kudos to Deeper Life High School for their commitment to holistic, purpose-driven education. It is our sincere prayer that the seeds planted today will yield positive fruits in the lives of these young ones.

It's a new week, and we're proud to share a significant achievement in our commitment to justice and equity. MIDLEX successfully led the mediation process between the Edo State Government and the disengaged staff of the Colleges of Agriculture in Iguoriakhi and Agenebode, Edo State.

The process was successfully concluded with a major compensation settlement worth of 1.4 Billion Naira in favour of our clients - the disengaged staff of the aforementioned institution. This long-standing matter involved dedicated workers who had served the state for many years, and through careful negotiation and mediation, we were able to secure this substantial settlement that recognizes their contributions and provides the financial relief they rightfully deserve.

Outcomes like this show the power of alternative dispute resolution in delivering timely, amicably and effectively, especially in matters involving public sector entitlements and employment rights - without the need for prolonged court battles.

At Midlex LLP, we remain dedicated to providing accessible, professional legal support that makes a real difference in people's lives.

MIDLEX MENTORSHIP MOMENTS

On Friday, 13th February 2026, our firm played host to members of the Law Lifers Association (LLA) of the great University of Benin, in what turned into a lively exchange.

By sheer coincidence, their visit coincided with the firm's weekly trial simulation where we line up witnesses in a pretrial session ahead of the coming week's court fixtures. The firm's moot hall buzzed louder once the students slipped in.

Expectedly, after the trial simulation session, the floor was opened for interactions and it was not a dull moment. Questions were raised and answers were given from constitutional twists to courtroom hacks; our lawyers fielded them, while Mr Larry Ediagbonya, a friend of the firm and legal colleague, chipped in his bit in answer to some questions.

E. C. Abednego Esq., Principal Partner of MIDLEX, urged the students (who he respectfully referred to as 'Aspirsnts to the bar'), to stay diligent - not just in academics and daily tasks, but even later as lawyers. In his words, pairing hard work with prayer while keeping your eyes on the goal, makes you truly stand out in law.

The students toured the Midlex office facility before departure, after being properly entertained and experiencing the warmth of being with the Midlex Team. Watching while the embarked on their trip back to campus, their proud smiles were our reward for a job well done. Nothing beats sharing the craft with fresh minds; of course, the door's always open for another round.
