CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe 🇿🇦 has announced that the AFCON will move to a four-year cycle, starting from the 2028 edition of the tournament.

After AFCON 2027, which will be hosted by Uganda 🇺🇬, Kenya 🇰🇪, and Tanzania 🇹🇿, the continental competition will next be played in 2028, then 2032, 2036, and so on.

In addition, a new tournament "the Africa Nations League" will be introduced and played every year starting from 2029.
