At the 1988 AFCON tournament hosted in Morroco, Henry Nwosu's brilliant header cm goal in the final against Cameroon was controversially chalked off for offside.
Cameroon went on to lift their second AFCON title beating Nigeria 1-0.

Erstwhile Super Eagles and Shooting Stars coach Adegboye Onigbinde has passed away at the age of 88. Exactly four days after his 88th birthday.
Onigbinde served two tenures as the head coach of the Nigeria national team (1982–1984) and the (2002) FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Korea/Japan, where he was the first Nigerian indigenous coach to lead the team.
He led Nigeria to a silver medal at the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Nigeria lost that final to Cameroon.
He also guided Ibadan's outfit, Shooting Stars FC to the final of the African Champions Cup (now the CAF Champions League) in 1984 where the team lost to Egypt's Zamalek in the final.
He also served as the Nigeria Under 17 Manager from July, 2001 to June, 2002.
The late Onigbinde was one of the first Africans to be appointed as a FIFA Technical Instructor.
He also served as a CAF Technical Instructor.
