Don't blame Michael Carrick, blame the board and Ineos

02/09/2026

Carrick has no identity!”

I keep hearing this, but I disagree.

A manager’s identity is not just about whether he plays 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

For me, Carrick’s identity is clear: control possession, build through midfield, create combinations and give his attacking players freedom.

Bruno is a big part of that. Carrick wants him higher up the pitch, where he can create and make those dangerous runs into the box.

But Carrick has one major problem to solve:

We need more runners!

Against a low block, you cannot have everybody coming towards the ball.

Someone has to run behind the defence. Someone has to stretch the backline. Someone has to attack the box.

We saw the difference when United played with more movement and intensity.

So, should Carrick abandon his philosophy?

Absolutely not.

Keep the identity, but improve the ex*****on.

More pace. More movement. More aggression.

That's how Carrick can make his football work at Manchester United.

What do you think, does Carrick have an identity?

One thing I really admire about Joshua Zirkzee is the genuine happiness he shows whenever Manchester United are winning, even when he isn’t on the pitch.

He celebrates the team’s success as if he played a part in it. There’s no jealousy, no frustration, just pure joy for his teammates and the club.

That kind of character is special. In a team where personal success can sometimes come before collective success, Zirkzee’s attitude sets him apart.

A player who is genuinely happy when his team wins, whether he plays or not, is the kind of character every dressing room needs.

Bruno’s first goal yesterday looked easy… but it really wasn’t.

Sometimes, the best players have a way of making difficult things look ridiculously simple.

Bruno Fernandes’ first goal yesterday is a perfect example. The finish may have looked straightforward, but the movement, positioning, timing, composure and technique required to execute it under pressure shouldn’t be overlooked.

Bruno didn’t panic. He didn’t overcomplicate it. He simply read the situation, found the right position and finished with the confidence of a player who knows exactly what he is doing.

That’s what quality looks like.
The goal might end up being remembered as an “easy finish,” but watch it again carefully you’ll appreciate just how much Bruno did right before that ball hit the back of the net.

Great players don't always make spectacular things happen. Sometimes, they make difficult things look spectacularly easy.

MANCHESTER UNITED 5–2 IPSWICH: MY PLAYER RATINGS — AGREE OR DISAGREE?
What a comeback! But before we get carried away by the five goals, let's talk about the individual performances. 👇

Bruno Fernandes — 10/10
A hat-trick and an assist. When United needed someone to take responsibility, Bruno stood up. Simple.

Kobbie Mainoo — 8.5/10
For me, this was one of his best performances in a United shirt recently. Composed, strong and progressive. I think Carrick needs to seriously consider building this midfield around Mainoo.

Marcus Rashford — 7.5/10
Good movement, dangerous runs and much more involved. He may not have scored, but his presence changed United's attack.

Bryan Mbeumo — 7.5/10
Worked hard and finally got his goal. Still needs to become more clinical.

Tielemans — 7/10
Much better performance. His combination with Mainoo was particularly encouraging.

Cunha — 7/10
Won the penalty and worked hard, but I'm still not convinced he's the answer as United's main striker.

Maguire — 7.5/10
Solid enough, although United still looked vulnerable at the back.
Luke Shaw — 4.5/10
I'm sorry, but I cannot give Shaw more than this. He struggled defensively and Ipswich repeatedly found space on his side.

THE BIG QUESTION:
United scored FIVE, but conceded TWO and could have conceded more. The defence still needs to work harder. Has Carrick finally found the midfield combination?
MAINOO + TIELEMANS ,YES OR NO?
And be honest...

What rating would YOU give Luke Shaw?

No long talk... Well done boys

Tottenham have spent the money. Now they need to make the team work. Two games, two defeats, zero goals. Is this just a new team needing time, or are we looking at a deeper problem at Spur

£320 MILLION… SO WHAT IS WRONG WITH TOTTENHAM?

Tottenham have spent around ÂŁ320 million this summer.

Tonali.
Marmoush.
Andy Robertson.
Van Hecke.
Mateus Fernandes.
And several other additions.

But after two Premier League games…
ZERO POINTS. ZERO GOALS. SIX GOALS CONCEDED.

So what exactly is going wrong?

BOURNEMOUTH, NOT AGAIN!
How many times will they keep doing this?

Bournemouth have made conceding late goals their biggest nightmare. Just when you think they’ve done enough to get the result… BOOM!

Football is cruel, but Bournemouth need to learn how to close out games.
