The Maputo Protocol is not just a document- it is a living flame, carried by millions across the continent.

Let's transition from empty reflections to real, unapologetic actions.

23 years ago, African women built something powerful: a legally binding treaty that speaks to their lives, their realities, their rights: the Maputo Protocol.
Today, despite the backlash, despite shrinking civic space, despite everything: the fire is still burning. 🔥
We are calling on the 9 remaining AU states to ratify. We are calling on the 46 that have ratified to implement. And we are celebrating every woman, every girl, every organisation keeping this flame alive across the continent.

Recent headlines across Africa have reignited urgent questions on spousal property rights and family law reform. How do we truly value women’s contributions to marriage, from unpaid care and domestic work to financial and entrepreneurial support? And are current legal frameworks delivering justice upon divorce, separation, or annulment?
Join us alongside the Initiative For Gender Equality and Development In Africa. IGED-Africa, Equality Now Africa, and the Africa Family Law Network for a timely webinar exploring spousal property rights through the lens of the Maputo Protocol and General Comment No. 6.
The session will also feature the e-launch of a new toolkit on GC6: a landmark resource recognising both monetary and non-monetary contributions in the equitable distribution of spousal property.
