Dear , It's been a minute on this platform. I am currently the face of busy! I hope you have been good? I just want to share an experience I had during the week. Due to the kind of projects I manage, I usually require to raise a document called move order to authorize the movement of items from the store. Normally I raise it per site. Due to the fact that I had backlogs on an item, I had to raise a large number of MOs. I spent a long time doing that. I eventually sorted that only to realise that I could have done it in bulk. I didn't know, which was understandable but what is not understandable is the fact that I didn't seek a better way to be more efficient. The moment I cried out, I got help. This would have saved me a lot of errors and time. Its not enough to do the work, its better to seek ways to become more efficient.

Let's take a quick break from our estimating technique series so we can talk about project documentation. I work in the project management office as a coordinator and my job involves keeping an updated database of different project trackers. Planned and achieved tracker, issue tracker, change request tracker, project implementation tracker, just to mention a few. Needless to say, data loss is an anathema to my unit as the entire organisation depends on these data when making crucial decisions that can affect the market. Project documentation and reporting are two peas in a pod. Your reporting is only as good as your documentation. Documentation is about data storage while reporting is about data analysis and data representation. Dear , improving your adeptness in the use of basic reporting tools will make your life easier

Happy new work week!! I wonder what was happening here that made me laugh that I almost lost all decorum. This is just to remind you, dear not to take yourself too seriously. Eventually, you are going to close the project. When I am faced with challenges while managing a project, I just tell myself that there is always a way. Trust me, I have had my fair share of challenge in life and a lot specific to project management, however I have never had a challenge that didn't have a solution in the process of time.
N.B: I find it pleasurable to laugh deeply..

Dear , We shall continue our estimating techniques today. We have discussed estimating technique and estimating technique. The next one is point estimating. If your aim as a is to define a range of estimates for your cost, timelines and amount of resources needed, then this type of estimating technique will be useful for you. It uses Optimistic, Pessimistic and most likely values to determine the estimates for an activity or task. The Optimistic value is gotten from the analysis of best case scenario. Pessimistic value is based on worst csse scenaio while most likely value is based on actual cost duration or number of resources , taking cognizance of parameters like the realistic expectations of the resource availability, dependencies on other participants. The discrepancies among these values depend on the phase youy are in during your project mgt. As your project go from initiaing to closing, the discrepancies are expected to reduce. According to , the farther you are into your project, the higher the certainty.

To borrow a quote from Oscar Wilde, I am not young enough to know everything. When you are young and impressionable, you believe that you have the world at your beck and call. You assume that you have all the answers. You believe everything google spools. The average four year old is just a bit beneath his teachers. He is definitely above his parents, siblings, uncles and aunties in knowledge. He corrects with so much audacity. His shoulders raised. His tone rings with a finality that discourages a contrary opinion. Try telling my 4 year old nephew that remote is not pronounced mimote. The elderly however hardly hold on tight to an opinion. They are willing to learn. They understand that time changes things. So they update their knowledge. Dear PM, let your time at work this week be an opportunity for you to learn something new about your project, your team members, even yourself. Be open, Be a learner. According to Malcolm .S. Forbes, education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one. Be effective
Learning some basics about Project Management won't be a bad idea...

Dear , How was work today? I hope your day has not been as clustered as mine? Today we will discuss another estimating technique. Parametric estimating technique uses both historical data and project parameters to calculate cost and duration. Measurements like cost per square meter can be used as a basis of estimates while using the parametric method. As long as the data source is reliable, this method is adequately accurate. While using this estimating technique, the higher accuracy of the underlying data, the higher its accuracy. This method might also require more time and it can cost more than the analogous estimating method. For example performing market research might be a requirement for a project so as to determine current trends. I wish you a lovely rest of the week. Keep on being the effective project Manager.

Dear ,
Happy new work week. I trust your weekend was great? Part of the many activities I did this weekend is the celebration of my church's second year anniversary. I had the rare privilege of being part of the project team that constructed our current auditorium. One major lesson from this project for me is, "Whatever is not scheduled is not done" There is a huge difference between what is planned and what is scheduled and that difference is Timeline. One may say "I intend to get my certification " The question is when? Some persons are always preparing for a stage they never intend to climb. You will be surprised at how much you can do in the face of a deadline. According to Dante, He who knows most grieves most for wasted time.

Estimating techniques are methods . According to ,there are different estimating techniques. Analogous estimating is being applied when a PM depends on parameters from previous similar projects for estimates. This method is cheap and fast so it is recommended when time and cost are constraints. However, it can be problematic because it is generally low on accuracy. This can eventually lead to project failure if not properly managed. If you want to use this method, you have to ensure or confirm that the data documented in your lesson learned repository is correct as it relates to the project that is being referenced. You must also be sure that the output of the referenced project is similar to the output of the new project.

Happy new month!Dear PM, it is February already. The clock is beginning to tick. How are you faring with the management of your project schedule? One month is gone from the plan you made. Have you achieved any of your milestones? Time management is project management. While planning your schedule, it is imperative to note that your plan has to practicable otherwise you are setting up yourself and the entire project team. Also by extension, increasing the risk exposure to project failure. There are different methods of estimating while developing your schedule. Each of the estimating methods have varying degrees of accuracy and speed of delivery. As the week progresses, We will discuss the estimating techniques and their respective advantages.
