Lagos State Athletics Association has honoured Nigerian sprint star and national record holder Ajayi Kanyinsola for his outstanding achievements on the international stage.

From Ikorodu to the global stage, Ajayi’s journey began with his first coach, Lawal Olapade (Coach Pade), who discovered his speed while he was still a footballer and encouraged him to pursue athletics.

Now a Commonwealth Games medallist, NCAA champion and Nigerian 100m record holder (9.84s), Ajayi continues to make Lagos and Nigeria proud.

Coach Pade watched with pride as the athlete she discovered years ago climbed the podium in Glasgow, making the moment even more special.

Ajayi also expressed gratitude to the Association for its support and encouraged the young athletes present to believe in their own journey.

From Ikorodu to the world the journey continues.

Nigerian international quarter-miler and Ohio State standout Edidiong Udo is giving back to Nigerian athletics by officially sponsoring the men’s and women’s 800m events, now named the “Edidiong Udo Men’s & Women’s 800m showcase”

Udo—who began his own journey as an 800m runner before transitioning to the 400m—is stepping up to support the top four finishers and introducing an instant ₦200,000 cash bonus for any woman running under 2:07 and any man running under 1:51!
