*When Intelligent People Stay Silent: The Consequences for Society is Dire*

Intelligent people often possess the insight and capability to solve complex societal issues.

However, when they choose to remain silent, either due to fear, apathy, or frustration, the repercussions can be dire. A society deprived of its brightest minds' input on critical issues is one that teeters on the brink of decline.

When intelligent individuals do not voice their solutions, several negative outcomes ensue.

*Firstly* , the most pressing problems remain unaddressed or are tackled inadequately.

The lack of informed guidance means that decisions are made without the benefit of expertise, leading to inefficient or harmful policies.

For instance, in areas like public health, education, and economic policy, the absence of knowledgeable contributions can result in suboptimal outcomes that affect everyone.

*Secondly* , the silence of the intelligent contributes to a culture of mediocrity.

When the best ideas are not brought forward, society fails to challenge itself, leading to stagnation. Innovations slow down, and progress halts, leaving the community ill-equipped to compete on a global scale.

This lack of advancement perpetuates a cycle where the potential for growth and improvement is continually stifled.

*Furthermore* , the disengagement of intelligent people from societal discourse erodes trust in institutions.

When the public perceives that capable individuals are not involved in addressing societal problems, cynicism and disillusionment grow.

This can lead to decreased civic engagement and a weakened democracy, as people lose faith in the system's ability to serve their needs effectively.

*Ultimately* , when intelligent people choose silence, everyone suffers.

The solutions to many of our most pressing issues remain undiscovered, society fails to reach its full potential, and the overall quality of life deteriorates.

It is crucial, therefore, for those with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to step forward and engage in the collective effort to solve societal problems.

*Only* through active participation can a society thrive and ensure a better future for all its members.

JUST BEGIN.

Just after I received my fee structure from Moi University for my PhD, totalling N850,000 in 2012, I met my dad, Alhaji Abubakar at Cooperative bank in Kaduna.

I explained to him that I had the admission letter and he smiled.

I told him however, "Baba, there is a problem. They need N850,000."

He held my hands, then slowly but reassuringly, said, "Just begin, my son."

To ensure his point went home, he got into his account and gave me N14,000 in an account that had N20,000.

I was touched.

I added N16000 and paid N30,000 into the account, and my journey to PhD began.

Today, having reached the dream, I remember the words of my father.

In everything you do, always remember, JUST BEGIN.

Just begin, no matter how difficult it seems to be.

It appeared to be difficult, but as time lapsed, I realised dad was right.

At some point after my defence, I gave up.

I still had a solid N300,000 to pay and they wouldn't give me a chance for my final defence.

Then came a very unlikely help.

I had supported a gentleman to undertake a project evaluation two times in the year.

I received his call cautiously asking me to meet him.

He was carrying a brown envelop in his hand.

He began, "Aliyu, you will forgive me if you find my action inappropriate. For two consecutive times you have given me a job without asking for a Cent. This is very unusual with many people. I did not know how to approach you, but I am deep with gratitude. Please accept my small gift."

I quickly peered into the envelope and saw they were two bundles, likely in hundreds.

He confirmed that it was N200,000.

I told him, "I have helped so many people, many known to me, some were my school mates who never returned a Cent. God bless you. Please don't give it to me. Pay it straight into the university account."

I couldn't believe it.

The words of my father, "My son, just begin" came to mind.

Don't worry how it will end.

Just begin.

If you are building a house, just begin.

If you are planning to buy land, just begin.

If you want to continue with your education, just begin.

If you want to pay dowry, just begin.

Nothing is more powerful than that advice.

We just need to begin.

And I have revised this philosophy.

Whenever someone is doing something, I always encourage them to just keep trying.

When things get thick, I always say, keep walking.

When things are intimidating, ignore.

Let's keep trying.

Don't give up on life just because your challenges appear to be insurmountable.

Do not be defeated before you begin.

Whatever looks like a mountain will soon become an anthill...but only if you begin.

Not long ago, someone asked me, "Aliyu, are we going to manage to build the office we want?"

My answer, "Let's just begin."

I believe in the power of starting.

No one loses a race until they respond to the sound of the gun and begin.

The secret lies in beginning.

Overtime, God has seen me through a number of projects because of this philosophy.

I have parcels of land that I acquired by simply paying N50,000...and, overtime, these have multiplied.

I persuade you this day never to allow yourself to be threatened by the size of your problem.

Begin in a small way to do something about it.

If it is lack of money do something small to get something for yourself.

If it is a marital issue, look for a way to solve it.

In whatever you face, just begin.

Even those with big debts can do something about it.

Just begin and it will shrink each day.

I was not a millionaire, but sometime ago, I wanted to have a feeling of being one.

I drew a plan of how to hold a million in my account, at least for a few days.

After some months of beginning, I discovered it was possible.

Three years and half of savings later, I got my first ever million.

Even though I used it later on investments and expenses, it felt so good.

Let's all begin.

Let's ignore naysayers and prophets of doom that believe we can't do it.

JUST BEGIN!

SAFEGUARDS WHEN PURCHASING A LAND:

Purchasing a land can be a thing of great joy, but if you are not careful, it could be a living nightmare!
The following are safeguards when purchasing a land.

1.Let a Lawyer be with you at the beginning of the Transaction. It makes the Land Speculators to do the right thing, from the beginning, knowing that a good Lawyer will detect fraud or discrepancies from the start.

2. Never make payments and sign documents later, most times after making payments, the Vendors become evasive and elusive, knowing there is nothing to look on to.

3. Never pay cash for land purchases, do a bank transfer, issue a cheque or raise a draft, this is to ensure a trail of transaction !

4.Investigate title and ownership before purchase, don't believe every information given to you by the Vendor, there a lot fake and forged land documents out there !

5. If they said the Vendor was abroad, insist on a Power of Attorney from the Vendor to a person here in Nigeria and go on line to verify the authenticity of the fact, by using social media channels to reach the Vendor.

6.Let the person who introduced you to the transaction sign as a witness for you and ensure the phone numbers of the vendor and witnesses are on the land just as you should capture the signing of the land documents in still and motion picture !

7.Always put dates in your Deeds of Transfer or Assignment, an undated document has no probative value-as per a ratio by the Supreme Court .

8 .If the land document is registered, conduct a search at the Lands Registry to ascertain, if there had been a Transfer, if there was a charge, mortgage, caveat or any kind of encumbrance whatsoever, if it was not registered, do territorial search alone with out the Vendor .

9.If the Owner of the land is dead, demand for a document conferring ownership on the Vendor, like Letters of Administration, Document of Sharing or Order from the Customary or High Court .

10.Take your documentation seriously, do not patronize quacks or business centres, be guided that according to the Land Instrument Preparation Law every document relating to land must be prepared by a Legal Practitioner, failure of which, what you have will be a worthless sheet of paper!

11. If you were not sure of the genuineness of the Land, pay Instalmentally, do some work to ascertain encumbrance or otherwise .

12.Do not allow the Vendor to rush you, to make payments while doing a land transaction, being rushed is a red flag, that the land may not be genuine .

13.Always insist on a receipt for every payment made and insist on a separate receipt and indemnity for the land apart from the Deed.

13.Do a Survey Plan immediately after purchasing a land, and lodge it in the Lands Registry and if possible process your C of O or Governor's Consent

14.Do not buy a land and leave it to fallow, it is likely to be encroached on and make sure you have contact details of people around to alert you against any Trespass.

15.Make sure you have pictures and videos of the signing of the Land Documents, children of the Vendor may feign ignorance of your transaction, if for any reason the Vendor dies.

16.Do not allow the Vendor to get a Lawyer for you, get your Lawyer that will protect your interest .

17. Make sure the Community Leaders are aware of your purchase of land in their community, it makes fraud less likely .

18.Read through before signing a Land Document, dont sign what you dont under stand .

19.You may require the Vendor to swear to an Affidavit of ownership and indemnity!!!

20. Buying a Land from an individual that is ascertained to be the Owner of the land, is likely to be more authentic than buying from the Community!!! Be more thorough, when buying from the Community!

21.Immediately you buy the land, start building, do not buy a land, when you are not ready to build, else you may lose your land and your money!!!!
