Elkanemi Warriors FC Thrash UDIB of Guinea-Bissau 3-0 in CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary

The pride of Northern Nigeria, Elkanemi Warriors FC, recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over UDIB of Guinea-Bissau in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

The encounter kicked off at exactly 4:00 pm amid cheers from Elkanemi Warriors supporters, with the South African match referee taking charge of proceedings.

The first half saw the Babagana Umara Zulum boys dominate possession and create several scoring opportunities. However, the visitors' strong defensive line stood firm, denying the attacking duo of Utibe Arit and Nnamdi Mejuobi from finding the back of the net.

Despite Elkanemi Warriors' dominance, both sides went into the halftime break level, with the scoreline reading 0-0.

The second half resumed with renewed determination from the Zulum boys, who continued to push relentlessly in search of the opening goal. Captain Usman Abbas came close to breaking the deadlock in the 48th minute but was unable to convert with his weaker foot, as the UDIB goalkeeper made a crucial save.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 52nd minute when Nnamdi Mejuobi calmly slotted home after receiving a brilliant assist from Captain Usman Abbas.

Elkanemi Warriors continued their search for more goals, and their efforts paid off just four minutes later. In the 56th minute, Mejuobi doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Abubakar Abdullahi was brought down inside the box.

UDIB gradually began to regain momentum and came close on several occasions to reducing the deficit. However, the resolute Elkanemi Warriors defence, under the guidance of Technical Adviser King Emmanuel, stood firm and denied the visitors any route back into the game.

The Warriors sealed the emphatic victory in the 88th minute. Wahab Dayo was brought down inside the penalty area, resulting in another penalty kick. Although the UDIB goalkeeper saved the initial effort taken by Bayo, substitute Isaac Jonathan reacted quickly to slot the rebound into the net, making it 3-0.

After three minutes of additional time, the referee brought the encounter to an end, with Elkanemi Warriors FC securing a convincing three-goal victory.

It was a commanding performance from the Babagana Umara Zulum boys, who will now take confidence from the result as they continue their journey in the CAF Confederation Cup.
