Chairman of El-Kanemi Warriors FC Confident of Positive Result in President Federation Cup Quarter-Final

The Chairman of El-Kanemi Warriors FC, Alhaji Waziri Isa Mai Qatar, has expressed confidence that the team will secure a positive result in today's President Federation Cup quarter-final clash against Sokoto United FC.

Speaking shortly after the team's final warm-up session at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, the chairman commended the players for their commitment and impressive performances throughout the competition.

"I am delighted with the performance of the boys. They have shown everyone why they are champions, especially after coming from behind to defeat Bendel Insurance in the Round of 16,"

Alhaji Waziri further assured the Government and people of Borno State, as well as the club's loyal supporters, that the team remains determined to reclaim the Federation Cup trophy they won two years ago.

"I want to assure the government, the good people of Borno State, and our teeming fans that, by the grace of Allah, we will do everything possible to bring the trophy back home. From what I have seen in recent matches and during training, there is every indication that we can achieve the desired result today in Kano."

Describing Kano as a second home for the club, the chairman called on football lovers in the state and Borno indigenes residing in Kano to come out in large numbers and support the team.

"I know Kano is our home, and I am calling on the good people of Kano and all sons and daughters of Borno living here to come and cheer the team to victory."

EL-KANEMI WARRIORS FC SET TO LOCK HORNS WITH SOKOTO UNITED IN PRESIDENT FEDERATION CUP QUARTER-FINAL

El-Kanemi Warriors FC will face Sokoto United in the quarter-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup as the battle for a place in the last four intensifies.
The last meeting between both sides dates back five years ago in the final match of the Nigeria National League (NNL) season at the Shehu Kangiwa Stadium, where El-Kanemi Warriors secured a crucial draw that earned them promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

With the quarter-final clash scheduled to take place at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, the Babagana Umara Zulum boys will be hoping to make their experience count. Having spent two seasons playing their home matches in Kano, El-Kanemi Warriors have enjoyed considerable success at the famous Kofar Mata ground and will look to capitalize on that advantage as they chase a semi-final berth in Nigeria's oldest football competition.

Former President Federation Cup Champions Advance to Quarterfinals

The pride of the Kanem Dynasty, El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri, have secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 President Federation Cup after defeating Bendel Insurance FC 8–7 on penalties following a thrilling 3–3 draw in regulation time.

Bendel Insurance FC dominated the first half and raced to a 3–0 lead. However, El-Kanemi Warriors staged a remarkable comeback after the break. Tosin Olawale gave the Warriors hope by reducing the deficit to 3–1 shortly after the restart. Minutes later, Muktar Ismail scored to make it 3–2 and boost the team's morale.

With determination and resilience, El-Kanemi Warriors continued to press forward, and in the 67th minute, Tosin Olawale grabbed his second goal of the match to level the score at 3–3.
The encounter was eventually decided by a penalty shootout.

Both teams displayed composure from the spot, but El-Kanemi Warriors emerged victorious, converting eight penalties against Bendel Insurance's seven to seal qualification for the last eight.

Speaking after the match, the Chairman of El-Kanemi Warriors FC, Alhaji Waziri Mai Qatar, expressed his gratitude to all supporters for their unwavering backing.
