Chelle Reveals Why Osimhen Was Substituted at Half-Time

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has said Victor Osimhen was substituted at half-time due to injury, dismissing rumours of a dressing-room disagreement during Nigeria’s World Cup playoff final loss to DR Congo.

Osimhen, who scored twice in the semi-final against Gabon, was replaced by Akor Adams at the start of the second half, sparking speculation online. Some reports claimed he clashed with teammates, but Chelle made the situation clear after the match.

“He had an injury,” the Super Eagles coach said, giving no further details.

Nigeria struggled without their leading forward, and DR Congo grew stronger, equalising through Meschack Elia before dominating the second half and extra time. After a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes, the Super Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties, ending their hopes of reaching next year’s intercontinental playoffs.
