A few days ago, I had a private tutoring session with a child I was teaching how to write.

He had ideas — good ones, actually.

But when it was time to write, his paragraphs felt… incomplete.

He would write one sentence and stop.

Or write two lines that didn’t fully explain what he meant.

So I asked him,
“What are you trying to say here?”

He explained it clearly — out loud.

That was the moment.

The problem was not that he didn’t understand.
The problem was that he didn’t know how to develop his idea in writing.

So I showed him something simple:

👉 Start with your main idea

👉 Explain what you mean

👉 Give an example

👉 Then round it off

We practised together.

At first, he hesitated.

Then slowly, he began to write more.

Not just more words, but clearer thoughts.

One idea… properly explained.

And his face when he read his paragraph back?
That quiet confidence. He told me he had never written a composition that long.

That’s what writing should feel like.

Sometimes, the issue is not “I can’t write.”
It’s “I don’t know how to build my thoughts on paper.”

Writing becomes easier when you learn how to develop one idea at a time.

Do you struggle more with starting your paragraph or developing it?

Let's get this right...

ACRONYMS AND ABBREVIATIONS.

Do you know that acronyms and abbreviations are not the same even though both terms are used interchangeably?

Let's demystify these terms.

I will explain using four features.

1. Definition:

*Acronyms* are words formed from the initial letters of a phrase.
Examples:
NEPA from National Electrical Power Authority

NASA from National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

NAPEP from National Agency for the Eradication of Poverty.

*Abbreviations* are shortened forms of a word or phrase, which may or may not include initials.
Examples:
Dr. (Doctor), Mr. (Mister), etc, (et cetera), Dept. (Department), Ave. (Avenue)

2. Pronunciation:

*Acronyms* are typically pronounced as words. Examples: NEPA, UNESCO, NASA.

*Abbreviations* are often pronounced letter by letter or as a shortened form.
Examples:
U.S.A, TV for television, CV.

3. Formation:

*Acronyms* use only the first letters of each word.

*Abbreviations* can involve truncating the word, using periods, or using only key letters.

Then *Usage*
Acronyms are often used as a word in sentences, while abbreviations are used as a shortened form in writing.

Essentially, you may say that all acronyms are abbreviations, but not all abbreviations are acronyms. 🤷‍♀️😎

I hope it's clear now.

✌️

Yours in education,
