Isiokpo and Elele are both ancient communities, recognized as the historical roots from which all Iwhuruohna clans, towns, and communities can be traced.
Historical traditions reveal that two major migrations gave rise to what is today known as Iwhuruohna:
The first migration was led by Wagidi of Isiokpo, dating back to around 900 AD.
The second migration, associated with Akalaka/Ochichi of Elele, is believed to have occurred around the 13th century (this has always been contested).
..
Of particular significance is the commitment of the Isiokpo people to preserving their history. Isiokpo has maintained detailed records of all its traditional rulers from 900 AD to the present day. The current monarch is recognized as the 40th King, officially addressed as the Wagidi of Isiokpo. Remarkably, records of past kingsโ including their names and periods of reignโhave also been carefully preserved.
This enduring legacy highlights the importance of historical documentation in safeguarding cultural identity for future generations.
