Man Utd transfer news: Red Devils agree deal to sign Toby Alderweireld | Goal.com 07/08/2018

*Reports📰: Man Utd♦ Agree Alderweireld Deal❗*

Manchester United have an agreement in place with Tottenham for the signing of Toby Alderweireld, but Spurs have refused to complete the deal until they have brought in a replacement for the Belgium international.

And, with United nervous as to Spurs' motives, their search for an alternative centre-back will continue to cover for the eventuality that the north London outfit will pull out of the deal at the last minute ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

United have been pursuing the 29-year-old throughout the summer but have widened the net in recent times after the initial failure to agree a fee with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

But reports state that a compromise was finally reached between Spurs and United last week, on the condition that Spurs can cover for the loss of the defender.

The nature of the latest twist has prompted United to keep working on possible additions at centre-half, with Mourinho insistent that he needs a high-quality addition before the window closes even if Tottenham don’t bring in a new player and thus fail to release Alderweireld.

That was what brought about the brief interest in Barcelona’s Yerry Mina and their latest inquiry relating to the availability of Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng.

Trump claims ID needed to go shopping 01/08/2018

*Trump Claims 👀 Americans Need ID to Go Shopping 😒*

US President Donald Trump has been accused of being out of touch with voters after saying Americans need identification to go shopping.

At a rally in Tampa, Florida, he said: "You know, if you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID."

ID is not required at US supermarkets unless for buying alcohol or, in some cases, for credit card purchases.

The Republican president was arguing for tougher ID checks on voters.

"You go out and you want to buy anything, you need ID and you need your picture," he told the crowd at the "Make America Great Again" rally on Tuesday night.

"In this country, the only time you don't need it in many cases is when you want to vote for a president, when you want to vote for a senator, when you want to vote for a governor or a congressman.

"It's crazy. It's crazy. But we're turning it around."

Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho to appear in Spanish court over tax claims | Goal.com 03/11/2017

*Mourinho settles tax case in Spain*

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he has paid to settle accusations of tax fraud in Spain.

The 54-year-old attended court in Pozuelo de Alcarcon on Friday to answer charges of tax fraud totalling €3.3million, which he has always denied.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Mourinho said "the case is closed" and that he only attended to settle the matter.

"I was told that my tax situation was completely legal," he said, as quoted by ESPN.

"A few years later I was told that there was an investigation opened and they told me that to regularise my situation I had to pay sum X.

"I did not answer, I did not argue, I have paid and signed with the state that I am definitely in compliance and the case is closed. That is why I am here, nothing else."

Mourinho was summoned at the end of September over allegations he defrauded Spanish tax authorities of €3.3m between 2011 and 2012, while he was head coach of Real Madrid.

*Evra gets initial one-match ban for kicking fan before game*

Patrice Evra has been given an initial one-match ban and the Marseille defender will face a UEFA hearing after his altercation with a fan before Thursday's Europa League match with Vitoria Guimaraes.

Marseille lost the game in Portugal 1-0 and Evra, who was named among the substitutes by boss Rudi Garcia, will miss his side's trip to Konyaspor later this month.

In a statement issued on Friday, UEFA confirmed further punishment could be in the offing, with its Control Ethics and Disciplinary Body set to review the incident next week.

The statement read: "Patrice Evra – red card for violent conduct – Art. 15 (1) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.

"Following his dismissal, the player is suspended for at least one match. The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will decide on this case at its next meeting on 10 November."

Defeat at Vitoria left Marseille second in Group I behind Red Bull Salzburg.

Martial earns France recall.

Fresh from netting the winner against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial was rewarded on Thursday with a call-up to Didier Deschamps's France squad.
Having scored six goals in all competitions this season despite sharing left-wing duties at Old Trafford with England's Marcus Rashford, Martial earned his first national selection in a year.
"He remains effective. He hasn't been with us for the last five or six gatherings but Anthony was with us (before), he was at the Euros," said coach Deschamps of the 21-year-old, who has scored just once for France in 15 caps.
"He had a difficult period but he's come back well. I've seen him perform when coming off the bench but I'm not going to pigeon-hole him as a substitute."
All four of Martial's Premier League goals for United this season have come as a substitute, however he has scored in both the Champions League and League Cup when starting the game.

Aguero back from brink to become City icon
Having already supplied the single most gloriously heart-stopping moment in Manchester City's history, Sergio Aguero has further embellished his legacy by becoming the club's all-time leading goal-scorer.
The Argentina striker created a timeless Premier League moment at the end of his first City season in 2011-12 when his stoppage-time goal against Queens Park Rangers on the final day ended their 44-year wait for the title.
Five years on, and having had to dig deep to prove his worth to sceptical manager Pep Guardiola over the past year, he now stands alone as the greatest striker ever to have donned City's sky-blue shirt.
"He's a legend already at City. It's just a case of how big a legend he becomes," says City great Francis Lee.
"If he stays at the club for the duration of his contract, he'll be way ahead and in an unassailable position.
"He could run up another 100 goals. He could go on to be one of the top three Premier League goal-scorers ever."
Just nine months ago, Aguero's City future appeared bleak after he lost the trust of incoming manager Guardiola.
Guardiola wanted a more mobile forward capable of contributing to his possession-based philosophy and he was quick to deploy Gabriel Jesus as City's central striker once the Brazilian sensation signed in January.
By the time Guardiola left Aguero out for a clash with Swansea City in February – the fifth time he had been dropped that season – there seemed no way back for the Argentine.
Yet aside from his prolific penalty-box exploits, Aguero's most crucial characteristic might well be a bloody-minded determination to bend any narrative to his favour.
That tenacious attitude brings back memories of Eric Brook, the blunt Yorkshireman whose City goal record of 177 goals – which had stood for over 78 years – was eclipsed by Aguero against Napoli on Wednesday.
Having reclaimed a spot in the team last season following an injury to Jesus, Aguero has made himself indispensable with a barrage of goals.

Alli scores twice as Spurs sink Real
Dele Alli fired Tottenham Hotspur into the Champions League last 16 as his brace inspired a swaggering 3-1 win over Real Madrid that condemned the troubled holders to their first group-stage defeat in five years.
Alli put Tottenham ahead from close range in the first half and the England midfielder doubled their lead with a fine solo effort after the interval.
Lacklustre Madrid were run ragged on their first ever appearance at Wembley and Christian Eriksen delivered the knockout blow to ensure Zinedine Zidane's side won't be wishing for a return to the English national stadium anytime soon.
Cristiano Ronaldo's late strike was no consolation for the 12-time European champions, who hadn't lost at this stage of the tournament since October 2012.
With two games still to play in Group H, Tottenham's first ever win over Real means they are guaranteed to reach the knockout phase and, just as significantly, it should give them genuine belief they can mount a serious challenge for the trophy.
After an erratic start to the season, this was Alli's coming of age party as the 21-year-old bossed the midfield on his return to European action after a three-match ban.
While Tottenham were in dreamland, Madrid's shambolic display, coming after a shock La Liga defeat at minnows Girona last weekend, will add to the pressure on Zidane as he struggles to handle the first major test of his coaching credentials.
In the build-up to the match, Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen had bragged he wouldn't swap Harry Kane for even Ronaldo.
While that bold claim might be a little dubious, the England forward, back after missing Saturday's defeat at Manchester United with a hamstring injury, did everything he could to repay his teammate's boast.
Kane buzzed around the Madrid defence with real menace and his driven pass to Kieran Trippier gave the right-back the chance for an audacious volley that flashed wide of the far post.
Despite losing Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld to injury midway through the half, Mauricio Pochettino's side were dictating the tempo and their vibrant start was rewarded in the 27th minute.
Eriksen's pass picked out Trippier's run and, with Madrid's appeals for offside falling on deaf ears, the defender whipped over a low cross that picked out Alli, who got in front of the Madrid defence to stab home.
