His courage opened the skies for so many who would follow.

Today, on World Pilots’ Day, we honor and celebrate every pilot who carries dreams, connects lives, and keeps the spirit of adventure alive.

It was built in the early 2000s during the administration of Governor Obong Victor Attah (1999–2007).

It was part of his urban renewal program aimed at modernizing Uyo and giving it a more organized city structure.

Before its construction, the area was a busy market where traders and commuters crowded the streets. The place was quite disorganized, with a lot of traffic congestion.

Governor Attah's government decided to demolish the market and replace it with a modern public square where people could relax, socialize, and shop in a more structured environment.

It was designed with beautiful open spaces, water fountains, a mini-amphitheater for performances, art sculptures, and underground shopping stalls.

It became one of the first public spaces of its kind in the Niger Delta region and helped set the tone for further urban development in Uyo.

They were called the "Kettering Bugs".

They were used as pilotless aircraft and they were designed by the U.S. to carry explosives and hit targets without risking pilots' lives.
