AIK Confirm Massive Interest in Fast-Rising 18-Year-Old Nigerian Star

Swedish club AIK have acknowledged growing transfer interest in highly rated Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna, with the club suggesting the teenager could command a record-breaking transfer fee in the near future.

According to a report by The Punch, Yohanna, who joined the Swedish side from Kaduna-based Ikon Allah FC last year, has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Scandinavia.

AIK reportedly paid €200,000 to secure the winger’s signature when he signed his first professional contract in 2025.

Less than a year later, the 18-year-old has drawn attention from several major European clubs following his impressive performances this season.

Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs believed to be monitoring the youngster, while recent reports have also linked him with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Yohanna has enjoyed a strong breakthrough campaign since stepping into AIK’s first team, contributing five goals and two assists in 11 appearances.

He officially joined the club on June 29, 2025, signing a contract that runs until December 2029.

Speaking about the growing speculation surrounding the Nigerian prospect, AIK recruitment chief Miika Takkula praised the player’s quality and mentality, while admitting that interest in him continues to increase.

“"The sum has to be reasonable because he is a very, very talented player, a good player,” Takkula said.

“Good one-on-one and strong in the air. Fantastic mentality. I won’t talk about transfer records, but we value him highly.”

Takkula added that AIK could eventually be forced to consider offers if Yohanna maintains his current level of development and performances.

Meanwhile, Yohanna’s anticipated senior debut for Nigeria national football team at the upcoming Unity Cup now appears unlikely after the player recently suffered an injury.

AIK are reportedly prioritizing his recovery before allowing him to return to competitive action.

Turkish Club Open Talks to Sign Super Eagles Hopeful in Lucrative Deal

Turkish giants Trabzonspor have begun negotiations to sign Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi from Italian side Pisa as they prepare to strengthen their squad for next season’s Europa League campaign.

According to a report by The Punch, Italian transfer expert Nicolò Schira revealed that discussions between both clubs are already underway.

Pisa are expected to demand a transfer fee close to the €9 million they paid for the forward in January.

Durosinmi endured a challenging spell during the second half of the season in Italy following Pisa’s relegation from Serie A.

The Nigerian attacker recorded one goal and one assist in 12 league appearances, a significant dip from the impressive form he displayed during his time in the Czech Republic.

Before moving to Italy, the Super Eagles hopeful enjoyed a prolific spell at Viktoria Plzen, where he scored 35 goals and registered 10 assists in 86 matches.

His performances previously attracted interest from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt before a serious injury interrupted a potential move.

Trabzonspor’s interest in the striker is also linked to uncertainty surrounding the future of Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu.

The experienced attacker enjoyed an outstanding campaign, scoring 24 goals and adding two assists in 35 appearances, but has reportedly attracted attention from clubs in Saudi Arabia and several top European leagues.

Pisa’s drop to Serie B could increase the likelihood of a transfer, with the Italian club expected to reshape their squad and reduce expenses ahead of life in the second division.

The shot-stopper is now expected to be included in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament later this month.

Speaking in an interview on NFF TV, Okonkwo described the opportunity to represent Nigeria as a major honour and admitted he is looking forward to wearing the national team colours for the first time.

According to a post on the official Instagram account of Udinese on Sunday, the 26-year-old Super Eagles goalkeeper earned the honour after delivering consistent and influential performances for the Zebras throughout the season.

As per Daily Post Nigeria, his recognition comes despite a challenging start to the campaign, during which he was sidelined for the opening two months due to his alleged involvement in a match-fixing investigation.

On his return, Okoye quickly re-established himself as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper, producing standout displays against top sides including Juventus and AC Milan.

His commanding presence and shot-stopping ability proved crucial in stabilizing the club’s defensive performances.

Serie A Side Weigh Up Move for 23-Year-Old Nigerian Striker Ahead of Next Season

Bologna are reportedly assessing a possible move for Nigerian forward Gift Orban as they consider attacking reinforcements ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

According to a report by The Punch, citing Transferfeed, the Serie A club are closely monitoring Orban’s situation as he prepares to return to his parent club, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, after a loan spell with Hellas Verona.

The German side are expected to reassess his future at the end of the season.

Orban’s current valuation is believed to be between €8 million and €10 million, a figure that places him within Bologna’s financial reach as they plan for squad improvements.

The Nigerian striker endured a challenging spell in Italy, although he still managed to finish as Verona’s top scorer.

He registered seven goals in 28 league appearances but struggled for consistency during the campaign, particularly in the closing months.

His recent form dipped significantly, with the forward failing to score in his last nine league matches.

He also missed Verona’s final four games of the season, including their fixture against Inter Milan, amid uncertainty over his status at the club.

Verona have since decided against making his loan move permanent, influenced by both sporting considerations and reported disciplinary concerns following an incident involving the player and a supporter after a defeat to AC Milan earlier in the season.

The matter remains under review.

Despite his individual output, Verona were unable to avoid relegation after a difficult campaign, further complicating the striker’s future in Italy.

Orban remains contracted to Hoffenheim until 2029, and the Bundesliga club are now expected to determine his next steps following a loan spell that produced mixed results.

The forward, once highly rated during his prolific stint at Belgian side KAA Gent, where he scored 32 goals across two seasons, has since experienced a more turbulent trajectory following moves to Lyon and Hoffenheim.

Kosta Runjaic has expressed delight over the impressive form of Maduka Okoye, with the Udinese Calcio manager admitting that the Super Eagles goalkeeper is finally showing the level of consistency and composure he has been hoping to see.

According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria, speaking to Udinese’s official website, Runjaic praised the Nigerian international for his remarkable development this season and described him as a vital part of the club’s defensive structure.

The German coach stated that Okoye has handled crucial moments well and has helped keep the team competitive on several occasions through his performances between the sticks.

“Okoye’s progress is evident to everyone. He is indispensable for our defence. He has managed critical moments effectively and has kept us in contention on several occasions,” Runjaic said.

Runjaic also commended the goalkeeper’s mentality and dedication, noting that the former Watford F.C. player worked hard to improve despite experiencing a difficult start to the campaign.

“I am very pleased with the level at which he is performing. We are aware of how his season commenced; it is challenging to prepare without the opportunity to play, but he has diligently worked on his development.”

According to the Udinese boss, the club’s coaching staff, including former Swiss international Gokhan Inler and the goalkeeping coaches, have maintained close communication with Okoye throughout the season to aid his development.

He explained that every young player requires time to mature and added that the Nigerian shot-stopper is now playing with greater confidence, focus, and mental sharpness both in training sessions and during matches.

Runjaic further stated that Okoye deserves credit for overcoming previous challenges in his career, stressing that the club continued to support him through difficult periods.

The Udinese manager concluded by saying he hopes the Super Eagles goalkeeper can maintain his strong performances in the club’s final two games of the season.

English Club Retains Nigerian International Ahead of Next Season

League One side Barnsley F.C. have confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali will remain at the club for the 2026/27 season after including him on their retained list released on Sunday.

According to a report by The Punch, the club announced several squad decisions ahead of the new campaign.

Nwakali was retained alongside Luca Connell, Josh Earl, Kacper Lopata, Corey O’Keeffe and Jackson Smith, all of whom remain under contract at Oakwell.

Nwakali’s future had been uncertain following a difficult period at the club.

After making 26 appearances during his first season with Barnsley, the midfielder gradually slipped out of favour under former manager Conor Hourihane.

The former Golden Ball winner had been linked with a move away from Barnsley during previous transfer windows after reports suggested he was no longer part of the club’s long-term plans.

However, no transfer materialized, and the Nigerian international spent much of the season featuring for the development squad to maintain fitness.

He later returned briefly to first-team action towards the end of the campaign, making four substitute appearances and playing a total of 52 minutes.

His spell at Barnsley has also included disciplinary setbacks, with reports of internal issues earlier in the season.

He was additionally sent off during a development squad fixture against Birmingham City’s academy team following an altercation.

Despite the challenges on and off the pitch, Barnsley have now decided to keep the midfielder as part of their plans for next season.

Super Eagles Winger Fires Club Into Champions League With Match-Winning Display

Ademola Lookman delivered a crucial performance on Tuesday as Atlético Madrid secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over CA Osasuna at the Estadio El Sadar.

According to a report by The Punch, the Nigerian forward opened the scoring from the penalty spot to help Diego Simeone’s side seal a top-four finish in La Liga with two matches still left to play.

Atletico were awarded a penalty after Osasuna defender Javi Galán handled the ball inside the box in the 11th minute.

Following a VAR review, Lookman stepped up and calmly converted in the 15th minute with a composed right-footed finish for his eighth league goal of the season.

Beyond his goal, the 28-year-old produced an impressive all-round display.

He completed every dribble attempt, won three fouls, and came out on top in five of his seven ground duels during an energetic performance in attack.

Lookman also maintained strong passing accuracy, completing 15 of his 19 passes, while effectively progressing play in the opposition half as Atletico controlled the contest after taking the lead.

The goal marked an important return to scoring form for the former African Footballer of the Year after a difficult run lately.

Although he found the net in Atletico’s Champions League quarter-final tie against FC Barcelona and in the Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad, he had struggled for consistent attacking returns in recent matches.

The Super Eagles' winger also failed to register a goal contribution across both legs against Arsenal F.C. and during Atletico’s recent home defeat to RC Celta de Vigo before rediscovering his sharpness at a decisive stage of the campaign.

The victory lifted Atletico to 66 points, six ahead of fifth-placed Real Betis, confirming their place in next season’s Champions League.

Simeone’s men are also just three points behind third-placed Villarreal CF.

With eight goals and three assists in 23 appearances this season, Lookman will now aim to finish strongly when Atletico face Girona FC on Sunday before closing their league campaign away to Villarreal on May 24.
