Today’s episode at the playground…
When we got to the playground, both swings were occupied by two children from a group of four ( they look older than her. They should be between the ages of 6 to 10 years old). The oldest was sitting on one swing, while the youngest was actually swinging.
As usual, my small madam went over and politely asked if she could have a turn. He said no. She wasn’t happy, but I told her, “No is no. Go and find something else to play with. When they are finished, you can have your turn.”
And she did. ❤️
But then something interesting started happening. Every time she came anywhere near the swings, the boy would suddenly run back and sit on the swing—even though he had been playing somewhere else. This happened about three times. 😅
I usually like to observe from a distance and allow her to handle these little situations themselves. But this time, I had to step in.
I simply told them, “If you want to use the swings, that's fine. But when you're not using them, you should allow someone else to have a turn. You can't leave the swing and then run back to occupy it every time you see someone approaching to use it.”
And finally, they allowed my small madam to have her turn.
Then, while I was pushing her, she said:
“Iedereen moet samen delen en samen spelen, maar de jongen wil niet met mij delen.” 😂❤️
“Everyone has to share and play together, but the boy doesn't want to share with me.”
And shortly after, another little girl came with her dad and wanted to use the swing. My small madam immediately said:
“Het meisje mag ook!” 🥹
“The girl can have a turn too!”
And she got off the swing to give the other child a turn. ❤️
It was already time for us to head home too.
And honestly, watching my small madam apply what she has been taught right in front of me made me so proud. ❤️
Children really do listen, even when we think they aren't paying attention. Teach them what is right, give them room to practise it, and one day you’ll see it come back to you in the most beautiful way. ❤️
