nce. Our wish is to help create a platform for the dance and performing community in Amsterdam with the aim of meeting, sharing and working together by having regular daily practices that involve the body, mind and the soul. Practical information:

How
Every week there will be a different artist leading the morning sessions. The sessions last for two hours and will stimulate/encourage a non-class format training. The artists leading the sessions may be choreographers, makers, dancers, performers who would like to explore their own choreographic themes, or who would like to explore a specific approach to the body, a movement quality, or a new training idea. The sessions can go beyond categories, beyond the traditional idea of class and beyond the conventional idea of dancer as an executor. Our core thought is to give the leading artists the freedom to create their own sense of what a training could be and to give the participants a way of experiencing a richer variety of approaches. In this sense, the training initiative wants to create an opportunity to re-think and re-define categories that we all inherited such as: class, teacher, choreographer and dancer. Why
At a time when the culture in The Netherlands has been placed at the bottom of the list of the priorities, the six of us came together to think in a collective way with a proactive response to the fragmentation and difficulties that we all encounter as artists. However challenging, we instinctively feel this is the best time to put our energies together and make an effort to fulfill our desires and needs. We have witnessed beautiful initiatives started from the artists for the artists (see Circle Rotterdam) and we thought that Amsterdam deserves as well an independent place for a daily exchange in our field. The training is an initial step towards a wider platform that can be shaped together by the visions and the encounters of all who want to be creatively involved in it. We would like to foster an environment where practices are explored, questions are being stimulated and constructive feedback can have a relevant place. Where exchange between artists happens from ground up with no institutions involved. Here we can meet, explore and interact, while expanding each other's knowledge. With the contributions of those who would like to be involved we would like to stimulate an original thinking and an active involvement from every artist: dancer, choreographer, performer and more, to shape our future as a community in this city. AREA 59 is hosted by the independent artist group in Marci Panis and facilitated by SMartNL (www.smart-nl.org)

To achieve this, we provide tools and services that deal with the complexity of creative projects and make you manage your creative projects and collaborations. Everything we do is based on needs of professionals and simplifies the day-to-day professional life, freeing up time for creating! As an active participant in the social economy we reinvest all profits we make. This makes us able to minimize costs, to constantly keep improving the service and to create an additional benefit based on the principle of pooling. As part of a European collaborative we are able to provide an essential contribution in helping creative professionals establish themselves throughout Europe.

We are working on a project to publish a monthly Newsletter with different dance events (classes, workshops, Impro sessions).
The Newsletter will contain information both of Area59 own activities as well as different artists' ones.

This is in continuous wish and effort to create a platform for the individual dancers to form a community and a platform for sharing their work with others.
