'Super afsluiting van het seizoen'
ROTTERDAM - Na twee verloren finales was Kiki Bertens zaterdag blij met haar eerste titel bij de KNLTB Tennis Masters.

''Dit is een super afsluiting van dit seizoen en een goed begin van het volgende'', aldus de tennisster uit Wateringen na haar zege op Quirine Lemoine.

Bertens speelde vrijdag in de halve finales een zware wedstrijd tegen Richel Hogenkamp.

''Gelukkig duurde het vandaag wat korter. Ik begon heel goed, daarna zakte ik wel iets in. Maar het is fijn dat ik het zo af heb kunnen maken.''

Voor Bertens was 2012 een uitstekend jaar. Ze pakte in Fes haar eerste titel op de WTA Tour, maar wil zichzelf vooraf geen druk opleggen. ''Ik wil geen stress. Ik heb altijd zo gewerkt. Ik kan wel zeggen ik ga volgend jaar de top vijftig halen, maar als dit niet lukt is dat een grote teleurstelling. Die druk wil ik voorkomen.’’

Naast haar succes bij het toernooi in Fes kwam ze de top honderd van de wereldranglijst binnen en mocht meedoen aan de Grand Slam-toernooien. Ze haalde op Wimbledon en de US Open de tweede ronde.

''Aan het begin van het jaar had ik dit echt niet durven dromen. Mijn doel was om mij voor het hoofdtoernooi op een Grand Slam te plaatsen, maar het werd veel meer.’’

De 21-jarige Bertens beseft dat er in 2013 wel wat van haar wordt verwacht. Ze heeft de afgelopen weken hard gewerkt om fysiek klaar te zijn voor het nieuwe seizoen. Op Tweede Kerstdag reist ze naar Nieuw-Zeeland om in Auckland haar eerste toernooi te spelen. ''Ik hoop daar fit aan de start te verschijnen en vanaf daar zien we wel hoe het verder gaat.’’

Commercieel tennisteam 'Tennis NL' in overleg.

Het beoogde commerciële tennisteam 'Team NL' voert momenteel gesprekken met twee potentiële sponsoren. Robin Haase, Igor Sijsling, Thiemo de Bakker, Kiki Bertens, Arantxa Rus en Richel Hogenkamp kwamen dinsdagavond voor het eerst met zijn allen bij elkaar.

Novak Djokovic won the ATP Finals for the second time in his career. He defeated Roger Federer from Switzerland, who won the ATP finals last year, with 7-6 (6) and 7-5. Djokovic said the title is for his father, who was suffering from a serious blood disorder. His father is doing better now. By thinking of his father during the matches, Djokovic felt he had some extra power.

Clijsters in laatste wedstrijd tegen Venus Williams
ANTWERPEN - Tennisster Kim Clijsters speelde begin september op de US Open al haar laatste wedstrijd in het professionele tenniscircuit, maar medio december zit haar carrière er pas definitief op.

Tijdens de Diamond Games in Antwerpen, voor haar eenmalig omgedoopt tot 'Thank You Games', neemt de 29-jarige Belgische het op tegen Venus Williams.

Williams deed vier keer eerder mee aan de Diamond Games en won het evenement tweemaal. De laatste keer was in 2003 toen ze Clijsters in de finale versloeg.

''Het is een eer om tegen Kim te kunnen spelen in haar allerlaatste wedstrijd. Ik kijk er echt naar uit'', reageerde de 32-jarige Amerikaanse.

Volgens organisator Bob Verbeeck was de keuze voor Williams als opponente geen lastige. ''Venus was er vanaf het begin van de grote doorbraak van Clijsters bij. Symbolischer kunnen we het afscheid voor Kim niet maken.''

Serena Williams wint the WTA Championships for the 3rd time. She was too strong for Sjarapova: 6-4, 6-4. Serena had a great year: she won Wimbledon, gold at the London 2012 Olympics, the US Open, and the WTA Championships.

Federer canceld Paris. It's too much for him to join the Master-tournament. This decision increases the chance that Djokovic will end this year as nr. 1 on the world ranking.

Novak Djokovic will try to get Federer off his throne this week in Shanghai. He wants to become number one on the WTA.

Headlines:

- Sjarapova supports WTA in reducing screaming women at tennisgames. Sjarapova, one of the perpetrators, is once measured at 101 decibels, similar to a chainsaw, while screaming during a tennisgame.

- Simon loses final in Bangkok from Gasquet, 6-2 and 6-1.

- Monaco defeated Benneteau in Kuala Lumpur finals. 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

- Haase lost again in Tokio. Troicki was too strong for him: 6-2, 6-3.

- Sijsling rises 10 seeds on the WTA, thanks to the quarter finals in Kuala Lumpur. He is now claiming the 87th place in the WTA Ranking. Haase is the highest ranked dutch male tennisplayer: 51st.

Petrova won from Stosur with 6-4 and 6-2, in 107 minutes.
Radwanska defeated Kerber with 6-1 and 6-1.

* Williams sisters pulled back for the WTA Peking tournament. Serena suffers a flu, while Venus had a backinjury.
Serena, gold medalist in the London 2012 Olympics, would be one of the biggest crowd pullers. The cancellation is a big dissapointment for the organisation.

Sjarapova defeated by Stosur with 6-4 and 7-6 (10). She did lost in the quarter finals.

Stosur will face Petrova in the semi-finals. She won from Sara with 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

First seeded Azarenka pulled back from the competition, she suffers from feeling dizzy.

Radwanska will also be playing the semi-finals, facing Kerber. Radwanska won from Wozniacki with 6-4 and 6-3.

Maria Sjarapova reaches third round of the WTA tournament in Tokia, after winning a match that lasted for 3 hours from Watson with 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-4.

Rafael Nadal hopes to reach the Davis Cup finals. The recovery of his knee-injury goes well, and he hopes to be in shape before the finals, 16-18 November.

Wozniacki won her first WTA tournament of the year in Seoul by defeating Kanepi with 6-1 and 6-0.

Wozniacki was the worlds no 1 female tennisplayer at the beginning of this year, but she had a hard season. In less than one hour she won the finals in Seoul, and won the 19th tournament in het carreer.

Bertens in the top 60 of the WTA Ranking for the first time. Congratulations Kiki!
