Hey gang, so as you all know Marco and I are going to start giving classes soon and we wanted to start getting you all hyped and excited.
We are going to start sharing some stuff with you to keep your acro juices flowing. One of the main things Marco and me always do when we start playing is calibrate and communicate, and the bird is our go to posture to feel where the energy is at, both physically and mentally.

I think around two years ago we were preparing a training TrainMore . Here is a short video of our practice. Since then, we have been training with a small committed group two days a week and advance rapidly. Although still a lot to learn, I'm thankful for the progression and friendships within acro!

- Tijdens AcroYoga leer je bewust (of misschien wel onbewust) meer controle over je lichaam te krijgen door van de ene beweging over te laten vloeien in een andere beweging. Het ziet er vaak mooi uit op filmpjes, waar het in de praktijk toch weleens een resultaat kan hebben.


Sometimes you just need to look at things from a different perspective...

Reversed Star: it's a fun one to learn, and scary as hell to get right. We are so used to balance ourselves, to be in control, that even when we think we are letting our base balance us, part of us is still holding on to control. This position taught me something about that; I had to lean over to the point where I can no longer hold myself, it is only then that the base can finally actually carry me. And the fun thing is? Beyond my fear, through the act of letting go, I found more trust. In my base, but also in myself.

Fear and surrender, control and trust, these things keep coming back in our practice, and in doing so help us to understand ourselves better and grow not just as a yogi, but as a person.

- Met AcroYoga train je je veel verschillende kleine en grote spieren in je lichaam. Waaronder je polsspieren, die ook maken dat je onderarmen sterker worden. Spierpijn is een kadootje.


One of the things which inherently make acroyoga different from other sports, for us, is that it's inherently co-operative, without being competetive. Add to that that it is trust-based and depends strongly on good communication and feeling safe with your play partner, and you end up with one of or favourite things about Acroyoga; the warm and loving community.

What is your favourite thing about Acro that you can't find in other movement practices?


- Bij AcroYoga heb je 3 rollen (base, flyer & spotter). Als base ben je je lichaam aan het gronden, door te zorgen dat je zo plat mogelijk op de grond ligt, waardoor je meer stabiel bent om iemand te dragen. De kunst van stabiel en plat liggen met iemand bovenop je, vergt veel oefening.

If you had told me 3 years ago I would be able to balance someone heavier than myself, upside down, in my hands, I would have told you that I am strong but nowhere near that strong. πŸ˜‰

I'm not much stronger now than I was back then, but I learned how to make it nearly effortless to balance someone else like this from different teachers sharing their years of insight and experience. πŸ‘Œ

How long do you think it would take you to learn how to do this? Or how long did it take you to learn it?


Marco and I met when he was giving classes in the Hague almost two years ago now. I was looking to expand my practice and a friend of mine invited me to one of his classes.
I was hooked from the first class, really enjoyng his playful and enthousiastic nature. It matched my own, and we soon discovered we share a "everything is possible" attitude. We aren't afraid to fail, we like to make mistakes with the intention to learn from them and we are keen to improve.
We have been practicing together for more than two years now, have introduced many new people to the practice and both find ourselves wanting to share our passion in a more structured way. The step to start giving classes together was a logical one and brings us to the here and now. There are just three weeks to go before our classes start and we are super excited, we look forward to seeing you there.

- Je werkt in AcroYoga (onbewust) aan je vertrouwen door iemand te dragen of gedragen te worden. Dit kan soms spannend zijn en maakt ook dat je goed kunt leren je grenzen aan te geven.


Part of what is so special to us about Acroyoga is how it is so much more than just pretty poses and spinning your flyer around like a ballerina.
Today we'd like to highlight how none of the things we do in Acroyoga would be possible without strong communication skills, and how those are actually developed through the practice, instead of being a prerequisite.

I, Christopher, would like to share some of my personal story in Acro. It started about two years ago, even though it could have started 5 years ago. The first time I heard about it I was hit by a wall of insecurities; will anyone want to play with me, will I be good enough, won't it be really akward as a beginner, what if I make a mistake, insecurities around touch and physical closeness to others and more. Maybe some of you can relate to parts or all of this, maybe not.

Acroyoga kept showing up in my life through friends inviting me to classes, spontaneous conversations about it and talking about how we would like to get into it.. yet fear and shyness stopped me from actually taking that step.

It wasn't untill two years ago that in a random burst of "what the heck" I followed my yoga teacher to the jam in the Mient, which she was key holder of, and took my first steps in the world of a Acroyoga. There I noticed everyone was very relaxed about the whole thing and it didn't matter so much that I was new; I was keen to learn and that was what mattered. After that day, feeling tremendously good about myself(acro does that), I quickly started taking classes and joining the jams, as well as pestering my friends to practice acroyoga with me.

During the classes, I started discovering that acroyoga is more than just a fun contact-based sport. It's all about trust, communication and working together. Speaking out what you want to do, asking the other if they want to play with you, asking for a spotter. Speaking out that I don't feel safe doing something. Explaining a flow, asking what went wrong, giving and receiving feedback and so much more.

And then there is the inner communication with my own body, thoughts and emotions. Feeling where I am tense, where my center of gravity is, making my muscles move the way I need them to. Saying "hello fear, it's alright, the spotter is right there". Or listening to my inner voice saying "no". Through all this self-awareness also came confidence and trusting myself. Trusting my body. And maybe you are already guessing it, stronger communication with others.

This is just one of the many ways in which I have personally experienced the enriching quality of acroyoga in my life, and would love to hear some of your experiences as to what acroyoga has done for you beyond the practice on the mats.

- Het gaat er bij AcroYoga niet zozeer om hoe sterk je bent. Je leert bij AcroYoga af te stemmen met je yoga partner, waarbij je communiceert met je lichaam door gewichtsverplaatsing. Een bekende valkuil is je kracht gebruiken in plaats van techniek, wat ten koste gaat van het kunnen afstemmen en afvoelen van je yoga partner.
