Rooted in DUMBO’s growing design community of 160+ studios, the mark celebrates a place where ideas are made tangible and collaboration defines the streetscape.

As extreme weather events become more frequent, water management and resilience-building are increasingly critical to urban development.
Flyt, developed with Norwegian manufacturer , is an award-winning permeable concrete paver system that manages rainwater efficiently and integrates seamlessly into urban environments.
In Frederiksberg, Denmark, the system has transformed a former parking area behind the town hall into a welcoming public square, shifting the focus from vehicles to people.
Flyt enables rainwater to seep naturally into the ground while providing a durable, flexible surface for movement and gathering. This project demonstrates how technical and strategic design can support climate resilience and create more open, inviting urban spaces.

Snøhetta’s expanded Hong Kong studio embodies openness and interdisciplinary exchange, serving as a spatial catalyst for collaboration and civic dialogue—an architectural reflection of the firm’s context-driven, transdisciplinary ethos. Situated at street level, the relocated studio features a generous outdoor entrance that invites the neighborhood in, reflecting Snøhetta’s commitment to creating inclusive environments that nurture human connection and cultural exchange.
Our design approach for the new Hong Kong studio prioritizes environmental responsibility and human wellbeing. Wherever possible, the existing interior was retained and repurposed, breathing new life into its architectural elements. Strategically placed work zones and reflective surfaces have maximized natural daylight, while a flexible air duct ventilation system enhances both environmental performance and occupant comfort. Throughout the studio, natural materials and biophilic elements are thoughtfully integrated to foster wellbeing and creativity, resulting in a workspace that nurtures both people and projects.

Jesselton Docklands is a tropical master plan designed to revitalize the port area of Kota Kinabalu, Borneo – the world’s third largest island. The site will feature a communal ferry and cruise terminal located near Kota Kinabalu International Airport. As a pivotal transportation hub with excellent connectivity options and rich tropicality, it is set to become a destination and gateway to the rest of Sabah. Snøhetta’s design for Jesselton Docklands will usher the city into a vibrant and dynamic future - one defined by sustainable urban living, cultural richness, and economic vitality.
The project aspires to become a benchmark for the future of tropical architecture in the region, with the potential to influence future development across the city, Sabah, and Malaysia as a whole. It is layered with diverse environmental strategies, engineered through collaborative discourse. The masterplan also emphasizes walkability, offering well-designed streetscapes that encourage to explore on foot – fostering a sense of community, safety, and connectivity. A central spine that stretches 732 meters links all the plots and the center. Shuttles assist as new mobility for the site, enhancing the feasibility of pedestrian-only placemaking. Various pathways, bridges, podiums, and pavilions weave a coastal condition where natural beauty and human creativity intersect.

For nearly three decades, the AIA Hong Kong Chapter’s annual Honors & Awards Program has been Asia’s leading platform for recognizing excellence in architecture, interiors, urban design, and unbuilt projects. Each year, an esteemed international jury conducts a rigorous, multi-phase evaluation process, ensuring that these awards carry global credibility.
As early advocates of sustainable design, AIA Hong Kong introduced the Sustainability Award in 2007 and continues to align its criteria with the AIA Framework for Design Excellence—emphasizing sustainability, equity, resilience, and well-being in every recognition.
