Facts and Figures – Marathon News
12,334 registrations already received as of August 1, 2026 – a record number of participants, which we were even able to surpass by another 1,500 registrations after last year's record. An outstanding result that whets the appetite for another exciting edition of the Volksbank Münster Marathon on September 13. All distances, except for the marathon itself, are already fully booked. And for the marathon, we already have 4,275 registrations today – for the first time in decades – that's 467 more than at this time last year.

"Full house" is the word for the Atruvia Relay Marathon, the Wecker 28 km Run, the Westfalen AG Charity Run, the Stadtwerke Kids Marathon, and also the H+B Technics 6.2 km Health Run. Only the marathon itself still has some free spots, and even that is starting to get crowded.

While the Volksbank Münster Marathon surprises runners along the 42.195 km course with a particularly large supporting program and constantly new ideas along the route and at the finish line, recreational and amateur athletes, including those who have just "learned to run," also get to enjoy being celebrated by thousands of spectators and crossing the finish line on the red carpet. It's a feeling that no runner will forget.

Supporting Program
The Volksbank Münster Marathon is known for its event program at the start, along the course, and at the finish line. There is an event highlight almost every two kilometers, featuring samba and drum groups, award-winning stilt walking theaters, and more. Cheerleading groups and the highlight at the SSH Mile
with stilt walkers, a rolling disco ball, the traditional wine stand, and a
fantastic cheering zone. But the Roxel, Nienberge, and Gievenbeck districts will also be in a celebratory mood, as several fan zones, along with numerous artists and musical groups, are among the highlights of this marathon.

1KOMMA5° Urban Run: 3rd edition for the nationwide Day of Running – a review
This was once again a fantastic experience for the runners, for the buildings we ran through, but also for the city of Münster, 1KOMMA5°,
and last but not least, for us organizers. 1,000 cheering runners and Runners who completed the 5-kilometer event loop through the city center with great fun and energy had no idea what awaited them. And so the pub "Schaf" (Sheep) made it happen – the discos were playing, drinks were chilled – a place where many even danced a round before continuing their run. The artists at the LWL Museum, in the churches, and at the city hall also contributed to the party atmosphere. The staff and students of the Adolph Kolping Vocational College really went all out. They not only rolled out a red carpet but also had homemade treats for their many guests. And the organizing team from Münster-Marathon e.V. even moved the piano keyboard into the hallways, providing the perfect musical accompaniment to the runners' footsteps. A run that simply thrilled everyone and is scheduled to continue next year on June 2nd.

Top elite at the Volksbank Münster Marathon and the Wecker
28 km Running
One of the strongest fields of male runners will be competing at this year's Volksbank Münster Marathon. Two athletes, thanks to their recent personal bests, have the opportunity to equal the course record set in 2023 by Charles Muneria of Kenya:

Simon Ewar Kameto from Kenya is participating in the Volksbank Münster Marathon for the first time and achieved his personal best of 2:09:08 hours in Eindhoven two years ago.

However, for the first time, an Argentinian runner aims to break the dominance of the East African runners.
Ignacio Francisco Erario Nunez, who had originally planned to use the Buenos Aires Marathon, also taking place around this time, to attempt the Argentinian national record, has instead opted for the Volksbank Münster Marathon. His current personal best is 2:09:49 hours, which he achieved this year in Enschede. He was able to shine. 2:09:36 hours is the national record
of Argentina.

Mainova Frankfurt Marathon.

Running for those who cannot: NichtGenesenKids e. V. becomes the charity partner of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon

NichtGenesenKids e. V. is taking over the charity partnership of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, thereby strengthening the social commitment surrounding Germany's oldest city marathon.

When thousands of runners race through Frankfurt on October 25, 2026, it will be about much more than personal bests. Every kilometer can give hope: NichtGenesenKids e. V. is now the official charity partner of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon. Together, Germany's oldest city marathon and the nationwide association NichtGenesenKids e. V. are sending a powerful message of support for children and young people suffering from Long COVID, ME/CFS, and other post-infectious illnesses. Long COVID and ME/CFS are among the least visible, yet most devastating illnesses of our time. Thousands of children and young people in Germany are therefore unable to attend school regularly, play freely, or participate in sports.

As part of the partnership, NichtGenesenKids e. V. will take over the charity activities of its previous partner. These include the donation gate along the marathon route, refreshments at the finish line, and other fundraising and participatory activities around the marathon expo and on race day.

"The topics of exercise and health stand in stark contrast to the lived reality of the affected children. While thousands of people celebrate their physical abilities at the marathon, we stand for those who have been deprived of precisely this ability. Together, we want to use the reach of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon to raise awareness of the plight of seriously ill children and young people, foster understanding, and provide concrete assistance." (NotRecoveredKids), we have found a partner that is exceptionally committed to helping children and young people whose lives have been fundamentally altered by a serious illness. Together, we want to raise awareness and inspire as many people as possible about this important cause."

NichtGenesenKids e. The association NichtGenesenKids e.V. represents children and young people nationwide who suffer from Long COVID, ME/CFS, Post-Vac Syndrome, and other post-infectious illnesses. Many of those affected have permanent physical limitations, are unable to attend school, or can barely leave their homes. The association supports affected families, raises awareness about the illnesses, advocates for more research and better medical care, and gives those affected a voice in politics and society.

At the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, participants can support the charity project in a variety of easy ways. The donation gate, located at kilometers 7.5 and 39, is already well-known and established among runners and has become a regular feature of the charity activities. Every time runners pass through it, a donation is made, making every kilometer run a sign of solidarity. In return, NichtGenesenKids e.V. provides approximately 120 volunteers during the event weekend.

The proceeds from all charity activities go directly to the work of NichtGenesenKids e.V. The charity NichtGenesenKids e.V. operates in the Rhine-Main region. It provides counseling services for affected families, educational and informational projects, political advocacy, and initiatives to improve research and medical care.

With tens of thousands of participants and its international appeal, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon is one of Europe's most important marathon events. The charity partnership has been an integral part of the event concept for many years. With NichtGenesenKids e.V., this commitment is now being continued and expanded to include an issue that affects thousands of families in Germany yet often remains invisible.

Summer has reached its halfway point, but in Košice we measure time a little differently.

The countdown to the 103rd Košice Peace Marathon has entered its final two months. They will fly by faster than you think, and there is still plenty to prepare for.

Our latest newsletter brings you another selection of news and updates. Before you dive into the full stories, here are some of the highlights:

15,000 runners and counting! Just a few days ago we passed the milestone of 15,000 registered participants. Fewer than 2,000 bib numbers now remain for the main race programme on Sunday, 4 October. At the current pace of registrations, they are expected to sell out within the next month.

The Men Who Defied Time – behind this title are two extraordinary stories united by incredible perseverance and a passion for the marathon. You'll have to wait a little longer before we reveal them in full, but we are convinced they will become one of the defining stories of the Košice Peace Marathon 2026.
Minebea Slovakia joins the Košice Marathon family. A member of the global MinebeaMitsumi Group, the advanced technology company with Japanese roots has become one of the Main Partners of the Košice Peace Marathon. Its Košice facility is among the company's newest and most modern production plants worldwide.

A significant and exciting change is also taking place for our long-standing General Partner. Following its acquisition by Nippon Steel, U. S. Steel Košice will officially become Nippon Steel Slovakia on October 1, 2026.

The elite field is taking shape. On paper, this year's line-up looks even stronger than in the years when the course records were set. The athlete with the fastest personal best represents a country few would expect to see at the top of the start list. We'll reveal more in September.

Celebrate your finish at the Medal Party. If you still have the energy after the race, join us for an evening of music and celebration. Once again, the party will take place at Tabačka Kulturfabrik.

Our TV production is gathering momentum. Preparations for the live broadcast are already well underway. This year's coverage will feature a brand-new studio on the course and worldwide live streaming. English commentary will once again be provided by James Thie.

Another step towards sustainability. Environmental responsibility remains one of our priorities. Thanks to the initiative and support of the East Slovak Water Company, a third refreshment station will be supplied directly from the municipal water network, eliminating the need to transport bottled water along the course.
More pacers, more target times. Great news for runners who enjoy racing alongside others aiming for the same finish time. Our pace team continues to grow and will cover an even wider range of marathon target times: 2:50, 3:00, 3:10, 3:20, 3:30, 3:40, 3:50, 4:00, 4:10, 4:20 and 4:30. Reggae Marathon has reaffirmed its deep-rooted connection to Negril through a $1.5M donation worth of food items, clothing, and food vouchers valued at over $750,000 to the Negril community.

For 24 years, the Reggae Marathon called Negril its home, building strong community ties before the event’s inaugural staging in Kingston last year. While the event has transitioned to the island’s capital, organisers have emphasized that Negril remains an integral part of it’s history and identity.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 Hurricane that significantly affected western Jamaica, including Negril and surrounding communities, Reggae Marathon, with the help of its organizers, the Jamdammers Running Club of Kingston and 2025 participants, were moved to support individuals who had played key roles in the race’s long-standing success in the region

The donation effort impacted more than 100 beneficiaries, including the combined Cadet Corps of Hanover and Westmoreland, the Green Island torch bearers, Negril volunteers, in addition to volunteers from neighbouring communities who previously contributed to entertainment, infrastructure support, and mobile music coordination, who were all impacted by Hurricane Melissa.

Speaking on the donation, Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis, Race Director of Reggae Marathon, said that this donation is one that Reggae Marathon is proud of and one that reflects the organisation’s continued appreciation for Negril and its people “Negril has been at the heart of Reggae Marathon for more than two decades. The support we have received from the community has been instrumental in the growth and success of the event. This contribution is our way of giving back to those who have consistently given so much to us,” Race Director Francis added, “This donation to these various volunteer groups is just our way of saying thank you. Even as the race evolves and takes place in Kingston, our connection to Negril remains strong, and we will continue to support the community in any possible meaningful way.”

This year, the race will be held on December 6 at the Kingston Waterfront. Devon House will also be the designated venue for on-site registration and packet collection from December 4-5, 2026.

RACE ON THE LAST SATURDAY OF THE YEAR

19TH EDITION OF THE LIDL SÃO SILVESTRE RACE IN LISBON

WE RUN TO THE RHYTHM OF THE CAPITAL ON DECEMBER 26TH

Lisbon, from afar, has a dreamlike air to me. It is in a Lisbon inspired by Fernando Pessoa that the 19th edition of the Lidl São Silvestre de Lisboa takes place, organized by HMS Sports in partnership with the Lisbon City Council and EGEAC Lisboa Cultura. On the last Saturday of the year, December 26th, at 9:30 pm, we will run to the rhythm of the capital, with Avenida da Liberdade as the stage for the 10 km race. This sporting initiative has already brought together more than 161,000 athletes since 2008.

“In 2026, at the 19th edition of the race that marked HMS Sports' debut in organizing sporting events, we will celebrate the city that welcomes us. Considering the poet Fernando Pessoa as a source of inspiration, we want athletes to feel and experience Lisbon as the stage of dreams, where they overcome challenges, achieve goals and celebrate sport! On December 26th, may Avenida da Liberdade and the streets of the capital inspire athletes, friends and families to run 10 km to the rhythm of Lisbon,” says Hugo Miguel Sousa, CEO of HMS Sports.

The color of this year's shirt has already been chosen. Between July 6th and 13th, followers of the São Silvestre de Lisboa Facebook and Instagram pages had the opportunity to choose one of three available options: terracotta, teal and light blue; 61% of athletes preferred the terracotta color. In this sense, the windbreaker, available in kit 2, will also be in these tones.

“The Lidl São Silvestre de Lisboa is an event that is already part of the city, it takes place in the heart of the Portuguese capital, and it is in the hearts of the athletes. For 19 years, this race has been enriched by the Christmas lights spread throughout the streets of Lisbon; a challenge that promotes the practice of sports among people from various parts of our country and also the world. Last year, we had several records: 15,000 registered participants, 39% women and 77 nationalities. In 2026, we want to reach new milestones and promote a memorable event on the last Saturday of the year,” reinforces Hugo Sousa.
THE EVENT

On December 26th, Avenida da Liberdade will be the starting point (9:30 pm) and finish line for the 10 km race, with athletes aged 18 and over running along Lisbon's riverside area. So that everyone can make the most of the Lidl São Silvestre de Lisboa, the start will be staggered: athletes will not start simultaneously, but in a phased manner. The timing chip will only be activated when the participant crosses the starting line.
REGISTRATION:
Until August 15th, the promotional registration period takes place. Those who wish to guarantee their presence in the race (individually or as a team) must register at saosilvestredelisboa.com. The GOLD registration is also available, which includes a windbreaker, parking next to the starting area, access to the guest area, welcome kit, athlete kit collection in the guest area on race day, changing room, privileged start in the Elite B category, and massage at the end of the race.

MEN VS WOMEN COMPETITION
In the Men versus Women challenge, aimed at elite athletes, men lead with nine wins against seven women's victories. In 2026, the elite women will start with a 4’21” advantage over the elite men (difference between the 2025 winners). Last year, Isaac Nader (Sport Lisboa e Benfica) achieved his second victory in the race.
