Royal Victoria Marathon Event Launch
Over 10,800 registered for the October event
The Royal Victoria Marathon recognized participants, charities, sponsors and volunteers at its 2026 launch party last night at Frontrunners Victoria. The 46th RVM will take place October 10 and 11 and is projected to be even larger than the 2025 event with an overall cap of 17,000 in all five events.
“Last year was quite a milestone year for the event – we celebrated the 45th annual with record numbers. Over 15,000 registered for the five events over race weekend,” said Cathy Noel, RVM Race Director and General Manager. “Currently we have 10,834 registered for all the races which is a 36 per cent increase compared to this time last year. We will likely sell out of the marathon and half marathon in July.”
During the evening Noel announced some new initiatives to enhance the RVM experience for participants. These included the addition of a title sponsor for the Half Marathon – OUTWAY – the Victoria-based performance sock company; an energy station hosted by Red Bull and the Island Savings CHEK Charity Cheer Zone. Within the zone from Mile 0 to Oswego there will also be a 1 km sprint ‘race’ for all participants with prize money, courtesy of Island Savings. The pre-race carbo dinner is also returning with guest speaker, World Race Walk Champion, Evan Dunfee.
“We are always looking at how we can make the RVM experience better for participants, volunteers, and the community,” adds Noel. “Our tourism partners are a huge part of that hosting, as event weekend isn’t just about having a start line, a finish line, water stations, and course marshalls, it is about transportation such as BC Ferries and The Clipper, hospitality through hotels and restaurants and attractions like whale watching—all of these partners are part of the experience and memories. The economic impact of RVM was over 14 million in 2025.”
The Island Savings 5K and the Thrifty Foods Kids Run take place in Oak Bay on Saturday, October 10 with the Marathon, OUTWAY Half Marathon and Westland Insurance 8K on Sunday, October 11, starting and finishing in downtown Victoria. Through the CHEK Charity Pledge Program, the charities are looking to raise $300,000, adding to the $2.35 million the program has raised since 2005.

ONLY FOUR MONTHS TO GO
In approximately four months, the 103rd edition of the Košice Peace Marathon will get underway.
Just these days, the number of registered runners surpassed 10,000, and all indications suggest that this year’s total capacity of 18,000 participants will once again be reached.
We believe that all participants will perform at least as successfully as in previous years and that many new personal bests will once again be achieved on our fast course. Last year, all six runners standing on the men’s and women’s podiums improved their personal records. Their performances moved this marathon to 12th place in the 2025 European rankings according to the World Athletics tables.
So if you would like to experience the captivating atmosphere of the world’s second-oldest marathon, do not hesitate to register.

Amanal Petros to start at the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon
German record holder makes his debut on the fast course along the Main River / Petros aims to defend the German record and attack the European record / Duel with the two German world-class runners Samuel Fitwi and Richard Ringer / "A historic moment in the history of this classic race"
The 43rd edition of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon could make German road running history. Amanal Petros, the reigning vice world champion and German record holder (2:04:03), will be at the starting line of this classic race on October 25th. Petros will face off against Samuel Fitwi and Richard Ringer, currently ranked second and third in Germany, on the fast Frankfurt course.
This marks the first time these three world-class German marathon runners will compete together in a city marathon outside of major championships. It's a lineup that will have not only the German but also the international running world watching Frankfurt on the last Sunday in October.
A spectacular race is expected, including a bid for a new German record. Amanal Petros is even aiming higher. "A German record would be fantastic. But if everything really comes together, I'd like to go for the European record," says the 31-year-old. The continental best time, set by Belgian Bashir Abdi in 2021, stands at 2:03:36.
It seems within reach for Petros, who wants to crown his 2026 season with a record-breaking run in Frankfurt. To improve the European record, Petros would have to shave 28 seconds off his personal best. If he succeeds, he would also break Wilson Kipsang's 15-year-old Frankfurt course record. The Kenyan once missed the then world record in the Festhalle by just four seconds, finishing in 2:03:42.
Race Director Jo Schindler: "We are delighted and proud to have an exceptional athlete like Amanal Petros in Frankfurt. The fact that the three best German marathon runners will be competing together on the Main River is an absolute dream scenario, indeed a historic moment in the event's history. October 25th could send a strong signal for German running."
Amanal Petros: "I was in Frankfurt three years ago and watched the marathon. I really enjoyed the race. I'm happy to now have the opportunity to compete here. It fits perfectly into my plans this year. The course at the European Championships in the summer is challenging, so there won't be any fast times. The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon will then give me the chance to run a very good time."
Petros, Fitwi, and Ringer last lined up together at the starting line at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Since then, all three have improved their personal bests: Amanal Petros (Hannover 96) to the German record of 2:04:03, Samuel Fitwi (Silvesterlauf Trier) ran 2:04:45 in Hamburg in April, and Richard Ringer (LC Rehlingen) has an official best time of 2:05:46, but ran 2:04:47 in Boston this spring on the non-record-compliant course.
"Richard, Samuel, and I will certainly support each other in the race. It's not primarily about beating each other—we understand each other far too well for that. We want to deliver a special performance together in Frankfurt," says the vice world champion.
Amanal Petros, who was born in Eritrea and grew up in Ethiopia, came to Germany as a refugee in his teens. It was only after moving to Germany that he discovered running – and was able to fully develop his great talent. Coupled with tremendous willpower and discipline, he rose to the top of German long-distance running.
Petros has already set a national record four times over the 42.195 kilometers (2020, 2021, 2023, and 2025) – more often than any other marathon runner in German athletics history. Furthermore, he is the first and only German runner to have broken the records in the 10k, half marathon, and marathon, even holding the records simultaneously for a time.

Register for the Copenhagen Marathon 2027 lottery
CPH Marathon 2026
The interest in participating in the Copenhagen Marathon has never been greater. To give everyone an equal chance to participate in next year's big marathon party, we have therefore chosen to distribute the starting numbers for 2027 via lottery.
In addition, the starting numbers will be personal, as is the case with other major marathons in Europe. This means that the resale platform will close and be replaced by a cancellation insurance, which we believe is a better and cheaper alternative.
If you dream of running through Copenhagen surrounded by loud music, happy spectators and thousands of runners, you should put a ticket in the pool now.
The lottery is open until June 3. After that, we will draw a ticket among all registered participants, who will subsequently be contacted by email
