Gateway Trail - McDowell Preserve - just another gorgeous 70 degree day

It's been a while since I last posted to this page. I hope to post more often of my hiking adventures here in the future. This is my hike from Monday, January 18th. Since it was MLK, I had the day off from work and was able to take an afternoon hike. I didn't plan to do a long hike, but it just turned out that way.
Take a look at the photos and you can follow along my hiking story, one which I would not want to repeat again and certainly don't recommend it to anyone. Whether or not you read the captions, I do hope you enjoy the photos. Until next post!

It's been a while since I last posted. I hope to do more postings in the future of my hikes, the latest as well as some of the past ones that were memorable to me.
With COVID-19 lurking around, most of my hikes in the recent past have been around town. This past Monday, it was MLK so I got a bit of time to do a nice long hike. I headed for the 40th Street Phoenix Preserve entrance due to the fact that my husband and I were going to driving around the area to look at how people have done up their front lawns. We had some ideas, but I saw one house that had a style that I liked near this hiking area. We dropped off one car at the 40th Street parking lot and drove to check out that house. Then, I walked to one of the side trails nearby to link up with the main trial.
I was able to get up Two Bits Summit. I went from one summit to the other and then I thought I would keep going, trying to see if I could get down to the mountain that way. Well, I did, but I would not recommend anyone to do what I did. Look through the photos and I hope to tell you what NOT to do when hiking. Ha ha.
My husband said I should know better since I am an experienced hiker. Oh well, what can I say? I am sucker for the unknown.
Hope you enjoy the photos and the story! Remember, don't do what I did!

Reinhold Messner holds several records. He was the first man to climb all the mountains over 8,000 m without bottled oxygen. His climb of Everest without extra oxygen in 1978 was deemed impossible by doctors and specialists, but he did it nonetheless. He reached his first summit when he was 5 and was also the first person to summit Everest solo.
The danger of climbing at high altitudes without an extra oxygen supply is that the body is forced to work overtime. As a result, more red blood cells are produced, blood flows more slowly, and blood vessels are prone to tightening.

On the first full day in Kathmandu, we visited Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath Stupa. We also visited a Thangka paint school.
I finally made it to Base Camp last week. I will post photos in the coming weeks from my trip. Thanks for the follows and please consider donating to my fund raising campaign if you like what you see here:
My Fundraising Page A year ago, I saw this ad for Team-In-Training to raise funds for charity by doing some sort of activities, such as running a Marathon or doing a big hike. As I am not a runner, a hike to Mount Everest Base Camp really appealed to me. I have always been fascinated by the stories about this mountain....

Today is the day. We are heading for Lukla and will hike two hours from there to our first tea house. We woke early, left the hotel at 7am, passed two cows on our way to the airport. Then it's a lot of waiting. Depending on your luck and timing, you get pick for a flight to Lukla. If you have a chance, please make a tax-deductible donation to LLS in support of blood cancer research: https://pages.teamintraining.org/az/mtklmjr18/MLuce

In a little more than a week, I am will be embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey. I will be hiking to Mount Everest Base Camp. This is a journey for myself, but also in support of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. I hope that you will be able to support me as I try to raise $5000 in support of blood cancer research. https://pages.teamintraining.org/az/mtklmjr18/MLuce Why LLS? Because there are so many different variety of blood cancers and it affects all types of people, regardless of age, s*x, and race. Please help me reach my goal. Thanks!
My Fundraising Page It takes more than one person to make up a team and that’s why I’m asking you to donate to my TNT fundraising page for TNT!
