Manaslu Weather Update 🏔️❄️

It has been snowing heavily on Manaslu for the past few days. We experienced similar conditions last year on Putha Hiunchuli around mid-October.

From what we are observing, it seems that the monsoon pattern may have shifted by roughly a month, resulting in a longer post-monsoon period and more unpredictable climbing conditions.

For now, our team is staying at Base Camp and closely monitoring the weather. We are still waiting for a suitable weather window before making our summit push.

Safety comes first, and we will move when the conditions are right.

This is one of the questions we have been receiving from climbers around the world recently, especially regarding Nepal’s proposed 7,000m experience requirement before attempting Everest.

The short answer is: We don’t know yet.

The 7,000m requirement is currently a proposed bill, not an implemented regulation. The Government of Nepal is still conducting a desk study and reviewing whether such a requirement should actually be introduced.

My personal view

In my opinion, it is unlikely that this requirement will be implemented for the 2027 Everest season.

One of the main reasons is timing.

Many climbers from around the world have already planned and booked their Everest expeditions for 2027. If the government suddenly makes a 7,000m or 8,000m prerequisite mandatory for Everest in 2027, a significant number of climbers could potentially become ineligible to climb.

I therefore believe that even if the government approves the proposed requirement, it may be more realistic for it to take effect from 2028 rather than 2027.

There is also a recent example of how Nepal has handled major changes to mountaineering regulations.

In January 2025, Nepal announced an increase in the Everest climbing royalty from US$11,000 to US$15,000. However, the new royalty was not applied to the Spring 2025 Everest season. It became effective from the Autumn 2025 climbing season.

This meant that climbers who had already planned their Spring 2025 Everest expeditions were not suddenly affected by the new royalty.

If the government follows a similar approach with the proposed 7,000m prerequisite, there could again be a transition period between approval and actual implementation.

So, should you climb a 7,000m mountain before Everest 2027?

At this moment, I would not make that decision solely because of the proposed bill.

The regulation has not been finalized, and there is currently no confirmed rule saying that every Everest 2027 climber must first summit a 7,000m or 8,000m mountain.

For climbers planning Everest 2027, my advice is simple:

Don’t panic. Stay informed. Train seriously. And wait for the official decision.
