We have recently purchased Buccaneer Adventures Niue Dive, and have renamed it Niue Blue.

In the middle of getting our heads around the planning for Niue Blue, COVID-19 has hit our shores and slightly put our plans awry. To put it mildly, probably not the best time to buy a dive business overseas!
But we have, and we are pretty excited about it.

We started looking about three years ago and totally fell in love with Niue, the island, the people, its blue water, and its laidback style.

The three owners in Niue Blue are Evan Barclay, Jeroen Jongejans, and myself, Kate Malcolm.
We are all based in Tutukaka, in the North Island of NZ, and have been in business together running Dive! Tutukaka, operating NZ's largest dive and snorkel operator out to the Poor Knights Islands.

We have a container ready to pack out, two new boats ready to ship, and a website and branding ready to roll!

But NZ borders are closed, and Niue's borders are too.

We were aiming for a May the 4th opening, we are pretty certain that that will not be happening.

COVID-19 not only has closed down borders but has also put our plans back by several months.

Your plans may have changed, flights certainly have, and everything is kind of up in the air. COVID-19 is making things alter quite rapidly, and obviously, we want you to come and play with us, but get that you may not be in a position to confirm that right now.

We totally appreciate the difficulties that you may be facing, as we all deal with this alternate reality, and we promise to be understanding, kind and compassionate.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we are currently in the process of selling Buccaneer Adventures Niue Dive (BAND) to a new buyer who is looking at taking over in March.
Until the new owners take over, BAND’s doors will remain closed to the public while we negotiate and wrap up the sale.

For the past 8 years we have called Niue home and it will remain forever a special place in our heart.
During our time on the island we have loved integrating into the community as much as possible and have had some amazing and unforgettable experiences, including;
• Donating our time and resources to Tama Mana, teaching the primary school children to swim.
• Running marine education, water safety and water skills days for the high school
• Being a part of the sports carnivals both primary and high school
• Maintaining the Fisheries scuba equipment
• Training and upskilling the Niue Rescue Team and other government departments
• Volunteering our time and resources for water safety for the Niue Vaka Association on vaka racing days and fishing competitions for multiple villages
• Being Vice President for Oma Tafua
• Assisting in rescues and recoveries for marine emergencies
• Volunteering as tutor for Tamakautoga reading group
• Having the ability to supply prizes and experiences for varying raffles and auctions for events such as the Niue Arts and Cultural Festival, marine days and golf competitions.
• Donating to the local churches, retirement home, villages on their showdays and other various charities.

Donating our time, money or resources has never been about business for us, as we feel that Niue is our home and the warmth we were shown by the island was far greater than anything we could ever give back.
We feel like Niue has become our family and we even look at the kids we have taught to swim as our own, and we feel so proud when we see them swimming and enjoying the water.

We both have had the honour of joining in on local sporting events, including Kalikiki, lawn bowls and darts. Whilst we may not have been ‘competitive’ or very good, we both had so much fun during competitions and the subsequent celebrations.

We have had the privilege of being a part of Umu preparations and have enjoyed multiple village gatherings, which have all been a part of making our time and experience in Niue unforgettable.

To all our business partners and fellow business owners in Niue, it has been an amazing journey working alongside you all and we wish you all luck and happiness in 2020 and the future.

To all of our customers both one timers and loyal returning guests, we thank you from the bottom of our heart for choosing us to take you on your first, or 1000th dive, our business would be nothing without you. We genuinely hope that we have made an impact on your lives the way you have ours.

We will be returning to Niue from the 21st of February for a couple of weeks to wrap everything up and to hopefully say goodbye to all of you. If we miss you, don’t worry this will definitely not be our last time to Niue, just maybe last time as business owners.

Forget all the bad news, here are the best facts from 2019 (36 Photos) I think we all get tired of hearing about the bad news in the world, but despite what the news says, the world isn't all s**t! Here are the happiest facts to come out of 2019!

And that's the end of another season. We will be back and operating on February 10th 2020. We hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and New Year's.

Incredible day on the water - this morning's dive was going well with a shark and green turtle, but ended with a mass hunting of katuali (sea snake) and blue fin trevally in the gravel pit. They hunt cooperatively as the trevally scare small animals into cover, where the snakes can flush them back out, meaning both species win!

Then to end the afternoon dive, a curious whale came to check out our divers as they got back into the boat!
