One more Santa Cruz after the full trail tuned treatment, including overhauling the Shimano ep8 drive unit 👊👊

Another Santa Cruz on its way back to it’s owner after sorting out an issue with the motor cutting out 👊👊

Owner reported that their drive unit was making grinding noises… the main crank arm bearing had completely disintegrated and fell out of the housing in pieces when I opened it up 😬😬😬.
After thoroughly cleaning out the drive unit, replacing the bearings and re-assembling it, I took it for a test ride - good as new!
For reference this unit had done just under 7000km before failing, and if it had continued to be ridden would have likely torn itself apart.

First drive unit service for 2026 done and dusted! This Pivot Shuttle should be good for another few thousand km 👊👊

Dropped this Santa Cruz back to its owner in Rotorua this afternoon after servicing the ep8 drive unit 👊👊

The youngest person in my household went all out on a project for my birthday… his mother is slightly Lego obsessed and apparently that absolutely did not skip a generation… how cool is this?!?

How about this for an upgrade! The owner of this turbo levo ditched the Rockshox 35 the bike came with for a shiny new Rockshox Domain Gold RC, we dropped the travel down from 170mm to 150mm to maintain the original geometry, all without the bike leaving their property! Looking forward to hearing the rider’s verdict once he gets it out on the trails…

It was just pointed out to me that today is the 6th anniversary of Trail Tuned launching. It has been a very interesting journey so far, and despite all the challenges it has thrown my way (like launching a new business 15 weeks before the first lockdown🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️) I’m still here, still keeping people riding, and managing to make time to get out on my bike. Trail Tuned has evolved somewhat over that time, www.ebikenation.co.nz became a thing, and that evolution has been even more pronounced this year with my branching out into teaching cycle skills in schools, getting my GSMBC mountain bike instructor qualification, doing a bit of work instructing/guiding, and setting up a base in Ngongotoha, Rotorua (work in progress, details on how that will look to be announced in the coming days).
