Beautiful morning fishing for my first fish of 2026!
Conditions were absolutely glorious, with the seas remaining flat like in the photo from 6am to lunchtime.
Good haul of and a nice . Delicious!

Absolutely stunning out on the big blue this morning.

Launched the Viking Kayaks Reload at approx 5am in absolute darkness. Piper were jumping all over the place and conditions were immaculate.

Once I got out to about 20m, it was all on. Snapper were biting hard with Softbaits proving lethal today.

Already hit my quota by about 6:30am (only kept four though) with the biggest coming in just under 60cm.

Conditions remained perfect all morning, it looked like a lake.

Paddles around to spots I normally couldn’t be bothered to, but it was easy today with such perfect conditions.

Managed to land enough fish for two people, but just stuck with the initial four.

Back on land with a solid feed, some epic scenery and smiles all round by around 10am. One of the best sessions in a long time.

After a day of conditions that didn’t quite match the forecast, I managed to hook on to a big kingy. Unfortunately on my lightest gear and at the bottom. So after about a minute of string pulling, it finally reefed me. No longer had I gotten over that however, had my mate Matt hooked on to this nice little 73cm kingy - which was easily released to fatten up for another day

It’s been a while since I’ve managed to get out for a fish, but I finally got out yesterday and it was on fire 🔥

I hit the water at the leisurely time of about 10:30am, about the time I’d normally be packing up and heading back to shore.

Conditions weren’t great, so I paddled on out to a faithful but relatively close spot, which provided only a little interest, but nothing worth bringing on board.

Next, I headed out to about the 40m meter mark, just a 10 minute paddle from where I was and all of a sudden it was all on! Binning 3 good pannies for dinner in about 8 minutes.

Deciding I’d already got enough for a feed and with conditions easing slightly, I pushed on out to another trusty spot out around 50m at around lunchtime.

First drop of the slider produced a good Snapper around 55cm, next drop a Goat Fish and the next, an approx 60cm Snapper - which was hauled in carefully and released successfully.

With a good feed and conditions worsening again, I pulled pin and head for shore. Overall a very successful trip and a great day all round!

Happy 2024 everybody!

I managed to get out for my first fish of the year and first since baby #2 came along.

Conditions were stunning so I headed straight out to the 50m mark.
The fishing was a bit slow, but I did only hit the water at the leisurely time of 10am, so it was expected.

Surprisingly, right on low tide and in the blistering heat at lunchtime, the first snapper came onboard at 48cm.
Soon after, Johnny D made a surprise visit, coming in at 47cm. Not bad!

Things settled for a bit and a pod of dolphins zoomed past in the distance. They were so fast I had to look twice at what was going on.

Coming back in and managed another 41cm snap.

All in all a good 4 hour session but most importantly it was just epic being on the water again!

So satisfying, getting so close to the bone, you can clearly see my fingers on the other side!

Sometimes the big ones just aren’t hanging around, but a good feed is always welcomed 😋 🐠

Slow-ish on the fishing front yesterday, but with such beautiful conditions it didn’t really matter.
Plus I managed to land my first (a definite PB) decent sized Blue Cod.

This fish is found across the country, but more commonly so south of the Cook Straight, so I was pretty stoked to get one, particularly this size!

Winter is my favourite time of year for targeting Snapper.

Monday was a cracker of a session, even with the full moon hanging over my head.

With the right dry pants, jacket and my favourite item, my buff (from .official ) it’s important, but easy to stay warm, dry and have a great day out.

Plenty of solid 50-60cm Snapper and a very nice 55cm Trevally, all on lake like conditions - you can’t beat it!

Kingfish Jigging on the Kayak 29/04/2023

I gave jigging for Kingfish a go from the kayak this season and it did not disappoint!

No keepers from this particular session but it was still loads of fun and good practice. Can't wait for next time.

Not the busiest day, or the biggest fish, but still a stunner of a morning with beautiful conditions and very little traffic out on the water 🎣
The gear doing aaallllll the damage today!
