There goes our Chairwoman. One of the true Heroes of the West❤️🖤
What makes a great Westie? To us, it’s those who show up week after week, making our community a better place.
That’s why we’re introducing our first Hero of The West, Barbara Murphy, Chairman of the New Lynn Stags Rugby League Club
Currently serving her 10th and final year at the helm, Barb has led the Stags into a thriving new era, including a massive boom in the junior girls' game, with 8 new teams.
While Barbara has been Chairman for a decade, her family’s history with the club goes back to the 1960s, when the clubhouse was just a toilet block and the committee sat on beer crates for meetings!
"It’s New Lynn or nothing," she says. "If you have dedicated people behind you, you’ll succeed. Everyone’s there for the love of the game."

Good morning everyone,
What a fantastic Friday night & Saturday we had for our Club Day. It just blew me away.
I would like to extend my personal thanks to Roger & Phil from the New Lynn RSA, Nik from The Trusts, Christine from the ARL Board, Kay Thomas from the Local Whau Board for taking time out of your weekend to come down to Stags to see our event in person.
To Mike Harrison for your donation of meat products,
Ken & Brad Curtin for bringing down your Midget race carts & allowing the kids the sit, climb & take photos,
To Shane Piacun for bringing down your beautiful classic car which I hope I might be able to have a drive in one day.
To Al Ettles for your donation of Canterbury Bulldogs gear for our raffles.
To EightySix Nail Boutique for your donation of a Nail voucher which someone will thoroughly enjoy.
To Avalanche Coffee for your donation of Coffee.
To Acme Supplies for all the raffle books.
To Matt, the DJ who had the sounds pumping out.
To Nipa of Waste Scape NZ Ltd, for assisting us with all extra rubbish bins.
To Warren Murphy who worked non stop in the Murphy's Kitchen cooking all the pottles of fries etc.
To all our teams players, coaches & managers, parents & supporters who brought along donations for our hampers over the last couple of weeks which blew my mind.
To my committee & all the teams who worked endlessly behind the scenes & on our stalls this event would not have run so well without you all doing your bit so many thanks everyone.
The BBQ was pumping all day long & the absolutely yummy baked goods, omg I won't have to bake for a couple of weeks.
Our merchandise sales & raffles sold really well so thank you all who brought these items.
To all the opposition teams, thank you, thank you. The games were great & you all adhered to my email I sent to your clubs about parking etc and we had no issues.
To ARL admin staff, Courtney & Joel for managing to get our teams sorted with the draw.
And finally to the man in the middle Sefo who refereed all 6 games on our main field a huge thank you. I hope the sidelines behaved themselves?
If I have missed anyone it is because I am so tired today.
I sign off with THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
STAGS ALL DAY.
WE BLEED RED & BLACK.
Yours in League

We want everyone to enjoy watching their children playing rugby league.
To do this please keep your cool on the sidelines.
No child wants to see or hear their family members abusing the man in the middle called, 'the referee' or the opposition players or their families.
Remember BE A SPORT & JUST SUPPORT.
How to behave on the sideline at winter whistle sports
Do not blitz the pitch and whatever you do don't come out with calls like "smash them!" or "tackle his head off!".
