SOLO TRANS-TASMAN YACHT CHALLENGE | One of the world’s most demanding offshore races returns next week, as 17 solo sailors prepare to take on the wild Tasman Sea alone. No crew. No rest. Just skill, resilience, and relentless determination.
At midday on 30 May 2026, the fleet will depart from the Opua Cruising Club in the stunning Bay of Islands, setting course for the 1,170 nautical mile crossing to Southport Yacht Club on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Doyle Sails is thrilled to support the Solo Trans-Tasman Yacht Challenge and the incredible sailors taking on this iconic offshore adventure. From brutal weather systems to long nights alone at sea, the race is a true test of endurance, preparation, and mental toughness, demanding everything from both sailor and yacht as they cross one of the most unpredictable stretches of ocean in the Southern Hemisphere.
Fresh from her Doyle Sails Round North Island race, Sharon Ferris onboard Doyle-powered Vixen Racing is ready to start this next adventure! Read more : https://www.doylesails.com/vixen-racing-ready-for-the-solo-trans-tasman/
