Bike rides aren’t just about the kilometres but what takes place along the journey

What a find — a tyre swing! 😁

Since my accident, I've become more aware that life is for living in the moment. The simple things—a tyre swing, a good laugh, a beautiful view—are often the things worth stopping for.

Best short ride ever… 🚴‍♀️🌊

Located on the stunning Kaikōura Coast, this gem starts and finishes in the small seaside village of Oaro.

Along the way you’ll discover seals, can go fossil hunting on the beautiful beaches, see remnants of the old railway line, look at the impressive limestone Haumuri Bluffs and view incredible mountain-to-ocean views. It’s hard to beat the scenery packed into such a short distance!

📍 Distance: 9.5km return
🚶‍♀️🚴 Suitable for walking or biking
🔄 Out-and-back trail

Getting started:
Park on Mitchell Street, just off SH1. Cross the railway line, head under the SH1 bridge, and follow the 4WD track towards the tunnel. Once you reach the tunnel, simply turn around and retrace your route back to Oaro.

💦 Expect one small beach creek crossing along the way.

⚠️ Please take care when crossing the railway line and only cross at marked locations.

A fantastic short adventure with plenty of rewards for very little effort. 😊🏔️🌊🚴‍♀️

Been a bit quiet on social media this week as I’ve been spending time with Dad and finally saying goodbye to Mum ❤️

Not being able to travel at the time of the funeral was incredibly hard. Following advice from medical professionals and family, I stayed home while continuing my recovery.

Mum was ahead of her time, graduating from University in 1958 with an honours degree in Chemistry — something not many women did back then.

And perhaps no surprise when Mum was younger, her main form of transport was walking and biking

Thinking of Mum, family, and the many memories shared along the way ❤️

Wednesday night fun, I’m only allowed on the gravel roads or super easy trails… can’t wait to join in for real as night riding is a real buzz

Build a community with connected pathways everywhere and look what happens at the local school.

So cool to be involved in a planning session with selected students, the lead teacher, AT, and Jason from Pedal Easy at Scott Point School. Seeing young people excited about riding, pathways, and active modes of transport is pretty special.

Now it’s time for some rest and catching up with friends and family. The body is already pinning for the hot pools in Hanmer Springs 🤣

Got to hang out at Takapuna Primary school and with Jason from Pedal Easy. He is taking over the delivery of the Bike Ambassador Program I used run up here in Auckland. Doing a small amount of mentoring testing the body to see what it can cope with.

ACC are keen for me to do more light duties, the report back will be I need more time!! You don’t know unless you try!

19 weeks since my accident, and I’m taking my first trip away from home.

A big milestone in the recovery journey 💛

See you soon, North Island 😁

Any chance I get, I jump at the opportunity to get outside for a walk or bike ride.

Walking up and down hills is still hard work, and I’m not feeling very confident on uneven ground just yet.

But right now, it’s about getting out there and slowly rebuilding my confidence & strength
