YMCA North is a not-for-profit community organisation that offers programmes and services for children, teenagers and adults in and around Auckland and Hamilton. We operate many successful programmes such as learn to swim, youth development, kids activities, and being the largest provider of out-of-school care and recreation (OSCAR) services in New Zealand.

🌟 Member of the Month 🌟

Lorraine Ann Geurts

Lorraine’s journey with the Y is one we’re incredibly proud to celebrate. Before joining, Lorraine admits she had never stayed at a gym for more than six weeks—but fast‑forward to today, and she’s been a committed member of the Y for over three years. That milestone alone speaks volumes.

Lorraine joined the Y with clear goals: to regain flexibility and build strength in her knee, which is in need of replacement. Through consistency, determination, and the right support, she’s worked hard to keep her knee strong and active, with the hope of delaying surgery for as long as possible.

What Lorraine loves most about the Y is the welcoming and encouraging environment. Whether following her own programme in the gym or attending classes she truly enjoys, she’s always felt supported by friendly, helpful trainers who motivate her to keep progressing—especially when it comes to strengthening a less‑than‑flexible knee.

Group fitness classes are a highlight of Lorraine’s week. She describes them as fun, social, and incredibly rewarding exercising alongside friends while being guided by amazing trainers makes her gym experience complete. Beyond the physical benefits, Lorraine values the opportunity to meet new people and be part of a positive, inclusive community.

Lorraine’s commitment, resilience, and positive attitude are a fantastic example of what the Y is all about.

🌟 Member of the Month – March 🌟

Carol Lee, Hayden Buxton & Morgan Buxton

Our March Members of the Month are a truly inspiring family trio—Carol and her sons, Hayden and Morgan. It’s always rewarding to see families training together, and Carol is setting an incredible example by helping her boys build a strong foundation for a healthy and active future. Hayden and Morgan are consistently polite, tidy, and enthusiastic learners, and they’re never afraid to ask trainers for help or advice—qualities that make them outstanding gym members.

Carol first joined the Y North Shore after noticing a YMCA promotion during the winter months. Wanting to get out of the house, lift her energy levels, and take advantage of the gym’s convenient location close to home, she decided it was the perfect time to get started.

Her motivation to train remains high, with running on the treadmill being her favourite form of exercise. Carol runs four to five times per week, describing it as a powerful way to clear her mind, relax, and unwind without overthinking—something she finds incredibly beneficial for both her mental and physical wellbeing.

One of Carol’s most positive experiences at the Y North Shore has been seeing so many seniors who are dedicated to maintaining their fitness while also enjoying the social side of the gym. She finds them inspiring and views them as role models for how she hopes to live later in life. Carol values the welcoming environment at the YMCA, particularly the wide range of classes available and the dedication of the staff. She deeply appreciates their kindness and the friendly smiles that greet her every time she walks through the doors.

Together, Carol, Hayden, and Morgan represent the very best of our Y community—supportive, respectful, and committed to lifelong health. We’re proud to celebrate you as our Members of the Month for March! 💪👏

ANZAC Fun Tournament – Morning Session
A fantastic start to our ANZAC Pickleball Fun Tournament this morning with 96 players across 4 grades taking to the courts today!
We have witnessed some amazing competition on the courts this morning with two women's grades displaying their skills.
The men and mixed grade will follow through this afternoon to keep us on our toes with their exciting skills.

Big thanks to our prize sponsors Graze Good Snacks and Dynamic Sport New Zealand, and to our amazing volunteers and the pickleball committee, without your support, this event wouldn’t be possible.
