Unfortunately the weather didn't want to play ball with us today and critical parts of the diamond are just too soggy. So no game today. 🌧️😥

Would have been great to come away with a W from the series, but the Melbourne Aces are a formidable forle. No doubt the players will take away some learnings from the experience, but for us, we are proud of Dakota from our Raptors for getting an opportunity to pitch going 1.1 innings with 4 strikeouts. More innings on the bump would have been nice but Charlie Adamson had a good outing and it was good that everyone who went had an opportunity to rep.

It's a question that's come up recently and we thought we would take a moment to share with everyone the origins of Raptors Baseball. 😉

With many of our members having grown up playing softball for the Waitakere Bears and then playing baseball for the Waitakere Bears it was time for a change. A new era and a fresh start. Something to call our own. So the team set out to find a new name and new colours that they could wear with pride. Eventually after much discussion, the name the team settled on was the Raptors, which has a double meaning. The first being the obvious - a scary dinosaur...RARR - but more importantly, it paid hommage to the RNZAF in Whenuapai. While the RNZAF doesn't fly the F-22 Raptor, they do train with the USAF and therefore still appropriate.

Next up was the colours. Black was still a natural choice but instead of being the primary colour (because, well, its hot and nobody likes wearing black pants and black tops in the summer), a new primary colour was needed. So Premier Player, Shaye Spearing offered the following: "Hey coach, what about Plum Crazy Purple?" Coach Brian thought, hmm, I could do Plum Crazy Purple. It was a colour popularised by the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger American muscle cars of the 1970's and after all Westies have always been classified as car loving petrol heads. And so with an ode to our local air force base and the petrol heads of the West, Raptors Baseball was born!
