THE CUT ISN'T JUST A MOVE.
Anyone can step around cones.
But can you cut at speed? Can you cut when someone is trying to take your head off? Can you cut and re-accelerate?
At Iron Up, we don't teach athletes to dance around defenders.
We teach them to:
✅ Drop their hips
✅ Change direction violently
✅ Re-accelerate instantly
✅ Win the space they've just created
The best athletes aren't wasting steps.
Their feet set up the defender. Their speed punishes the defender. Their power finishes the play.

This is one of our staples at Iron Up. Mini hurdle broad jumps.

But here's the thing... we're not just teaching kids to jump further.
We're building athletes for the future.
When a young athlete
Drops into a position
Explodes out
Lands
Stabilises
And does it again over and over, a lot more is happening than people realise.
We're teaching the body to produce force.
We're teaching the body to absorb force.
We're teaching coordination.
We're teaching balance.
We're teaching the brain and muscles to communicate faster.
Every jump is a rep teaching the body:
"Move quicker."
"React faster."
"Be stronger."
Think about rugby, netball, league, basketball, athletics, football.
That explosive first step...
Jumping for a high ball...
Changing direction...
Breaking tackles...
Landing safely...
Even sprinting speed...
All of it links back.
The long-term picture is where people miss it.
A lot of people wait until athletes are 15, 16, 17 years old and then try to make them explosive.
We want to build that foundation EARLY.
If an athlete spends years developing movement quality and plyometric ability from a young age, you're not just building a better athlete today.
You're building an athlete whose body understands speed, power and movement naturally.
Bit by bit.
Year after year.
Then one day people look at them and say:
"Man... that kid is naturally explosive."
Nah.
There was nothing natural about it.
That athlete just stacked thousands of quality reps over the years. 🔥💪🏽
Small jumps today. Big results tomorrow.
Better Never Stops.
EXTRAS.
That’s the difference.
At 11, 12, 13 years old… there are already kids separating themselves from the pack, not because they’re more gifted, but because they’re willing to do what others won’t.
Early mornings.
Extra reps.
Extra running.
Extra skills.
Extra grind.
While others are sleeping in comfort… these young athletes are learning to live in the uncomfortable.
And then people ask…
“How come that kid starts every week?”
“How come their confidence is growing?”
“How come they different?”
Because confidence comes from preparation.
And preparation comes from the EXTRAS.
Not every kid is born the star.
Not every kid is the biggest, fastest or strongest.
But the kids willing to work when nobody is watching?
Those are the ones closing the gap REAL QUICK.
Those are the kids taking spots.
Those are the kids building belief through WORK.
Those are the kids becoming dangerous.
As a coach and as a dad of boys… I WANT my kids living in the uncomfortable.
Because life ain’t always sweet.
Life will humble you quick.
Sport is one of the last places left where our kids can learn discipline, sacrifice, pressure, toughness and resilience.
The EXTRAS are not punishment…
The EXTRAS are preparation.
Preparation for hard times.
Preparation for pressure.
Preparation for life.
And parents…
If you’re always complaining about why your child isn’t getting game time, but you’re not helping them with the EXTRAS outside trainings…

Because trust me…
There are families out there grinding before school, after trainings, on weekends, in the rain, while everyone else is chilling at home watching Netflix.
How do I know? Because Iron Up athletes are at our gym at 5.30am ready to grind while the parents sacrifice their sleep for their upskills
That’s the difference.
Call it hardcore.
Call it “too much.”
Think what you like.
But these kids doing the EXTRAS are learning more than just sport.
They’re learning how to suffer.
How to stay disciplined.
How to keep showing up when things get hard.
How to earn confidence instead of waiting for it.
